Objectives:

To enable developing pupils’ reading and writing skills; to broaden pupils’ vocabulary on the topic “Holidays”;  to practise talking and listening skills;

to teach pupils to cooperate in groups ; to bring up interest to traditions and  culture .

наприкінці уроку діти навчаться  застосовувати знання  теми, навички читання на практиці висловлювати власну думку, працювати в групах.

1. Greeting and aim.

Teacher:  Good morning, boys and girls! I’m glad to see you. I hope you are OK. Today we’ll speak about Halloween, read the text, and do a lot of interesting activities. (Слайд 1)

2. Warming - up.

Teacher: Let’s have a look at the cards. Match the symbols of the holidays and their names.When do people celebrate them?

Teacher: Now let’s read the text about Halloween (Ex.1 p.172). While reading it, try to find as many words connected with Halloween as possible. (Слайд 3)

Text

Halloween is on the 31 of October. Children in English-speaking countries go and say  “trick or treating”. They dress up as ghosts, witches or devils. Then they visit their neighbours’ houses. They ask: “Trick or treat?” The neighbour has to give them a treat (usually chocolate) … or they play a trick on their neighbour (for example, they throw water into the house!) Pumpkins with candles inside are usual decorations in the windows of people’s houses.

б) post-reading activity.

Teacher: Now let's work in groups. Your task is to guess the crossword.

IV. Home assignment

There’re 4 witches. Their names are Abra, Wabra, Dabra and Cadabra. Guess who is who. Use the clues (teacher gives the cards)

 

1. Dabra hasn't got a broom.  

2. Wabra hasn't got a big hat.

3. Dabra and Abra haven't got long noses. 

4. The fat witch isn't Cadabra.
