Travelling. Means of transport.

Objectives:

-practical:  to form listening comprehensive skills on the topic;  to develop reading skills (looking for details);  to  motivate students to use new vocabulary on the topic in their speech;

 -educative: to  keep the following format of the lesson:  T. - Class (group work);  S.1 - S.2 (pair work)

 -cultural: to introduce specific vocabulary on the topic to enrich students’ cultural awareness .

 

PROCEDURE. ХІД УРОКУ

I. INTRODUCTION. ОРГАНІЗАЦІЙНИЙ МОМЕНТ 

1.Greeting. Announcing the topic of the lesson . Привітання. Оголошення теми уроку.

T. Good morning, girls and boys! I am glad to see you!

 Good morning, dear guests! Welcome to our lesson!

Travelling becomes more and more popular. People travel on business or for pleasure. They would like to see their own country or sights abroad. At the lesson you’ll  practice your reading and writing skills. Besides you’ll learn new words and word combinations and practice the usage of them in reading, writing and speaking. Moreover, you’ll listen and speak and at the end of the lesson you’ll  tell us about your last journey. (Слайд 3-5)

2. Brainstorming. Pair work. Мозковий штурм. Робота в парах.

T. To begin with, let’s work with the main verb of our topic- travel. Open your note-books, please.  Write down date , the topic of our lesson and look at the blackboard. You can see the first letters of the verb. Please, copy these letters in your note-book and write down the words about travel ( and transport) that begin with these initial letters.  It can be a noun, a verb or an adjective. To succeed in this task I offer you to consult the Vocabulary Bank ( p.116 wb.) . I ask you to do this work in pairs. 

(Please, the students who are ready to write the words to the letter ” T”… go to the blackboard and write them). Who can translate these words into Ukrainian?

T - tour, tourist, train, traffic, tram, tag (бірка до валізи), ticket

R- railway station, rucksack, ride, route, reception desk, rest

A- arrival , announce, to arrive in/at

V- vacation, voyage, van, vehicle, voucher (путівка)

E- excursion, emergency, exit

L- luggage, left luggage (камера зберігання), life jacket,  lost and found office (бюро знахідок)

 3.Warming up. Розминка

 T. It is very useful, interesting and pleasant to travel because we enjoy nature and visit different cities. We see a lot of places of interest, we see places full of wonders, we learn more about people’s traditions.

Why do people travel? Why is it useful to travel? Why is it pleasant to travel?

S.1 Some people travel to discover new places.

S.2 Some people travel to find rare animals to photograph.

S.3 Some people want to watch the nature around.

S.4 Some people travel in summer to the seaside

S.5 Some people travel to visit friends and relatives.

1.Vocabulary practice. Словникова робота.

T. Planning a journey involves solving some problems. What kind of transport to choose? Is your English good enough to speak and write?

Put the following words under the appropriate heading:( sb.p.84ex.1)

Boat, bus,car,coach,cycle,drive,ferry,fly,motorbike,plane,sail,ship,ride,train,tram, underground

Forms of transport: boat,bus,car,coach,ferry,motorbike,plane,ship,train,tram,underground.

Travel verbs: cycle, drive, fly, sail, ride.

2.WRITING. ПИСЬМО

Complete the sentences using these words. (Слайд 6)

 1.Active tourists like excursions.(Активним туристам подобаються екскурсії)

2.Are we driving or flying? (Чи ми їдемо на машині або летимо?)

3.Let’s go for a motorbike ride (Давай покатаємося на мотоциклі)

4.It’s best to travel by the underground (Найкраще їхати метро)

5.The boat was 5 miles away (Човен знаходився на відстані 5 миль)

6.We’ll meet you at a ferry (Ми зустрінемо тебе на поромі)

7.We went to Paris by coach (Ми поїхали у Париж на туристичному автобусі)

3.READING. ЧИТАННЯ

T. There are different types of holidays. Last lesson as your homework I asked you to read  the texts (sb.p.84ex.2) and choose your perfect holiday. Read the phrases about your preferences in the text which can prove your choice. 

S.1 I have chosen beach holidays because I like swimming in the warm and clear water of St Vincent in the Caribbean.

S.2 I have chosen tours because I want to visit all the top tourist sights and museums of Rome, Venice, Paris and London.

S.3 I have chosen activity holidays because I prefer to be active when I am on holiday. I have a chance to go mountain biking, hiking, climbing, and kayaking in different countries.

S.4 I have chosen backpacking holidays because I can plan my trip and book all my transport and accommodation.

S.5 I have chosen camping holidays because I can stay at fantastic campsites for great prices.

4.LISTENING. АУДІЮВАННЯ

T. Read the sentences and check you understand the words in green. Then, in pairs, look at the photos and decide in which place you might hear each sentence.

1. T. (ex.2 p.87 )  Listen to four recordings. Where does each of them take place? Match the recordings (1-4) with the photos (A-D).
2. T. (ex.3 p.87 )  Listen again and choose the correct answer, A,B or C.

After-listening activity

It is now possible to travel to most parts of the world easily, quickly and sometimes cheaply . Ukraine has a lot of wonderful cities and towns. I’m sure that you have visited many of them and now you have good impressions. Liza Lemeshko  has prepared the presentation about  her travelling to Turkey. We are ready to listen to you and ask questions about your travelling.
