Тема: Обмін валюти.

Мета: Навчити студентів мовних моделей спілкування, які можуть бути використані в банках та пунктах обміну валют.

Студент повинен:

знати вирази, які можуть бути використані в банках та пунктах обміну валют;

уміти володіти навичками ситуативного мовлення при обговоренні питань професійного характеру, використовувати лексичний мінімум з теми при обміні валют.

1. Read and memorize the following word and expressions.

2. What are the operating hours of the currency exchange office? - Які години роботи пункту обміну валют?
3. What is exchange rate for American dollar today? - Який курс обміну американського долара сьогодні?
4. Can you change me my money? - Можете мені поміняти гроші?
5. Can you change me hryvnias into English pounds of sterling? - Можете мені поміняти гривні на англійські фунти стерлінгів?
6. Can you give me smaller/bigger banknotes? - Чи не могли би Ви мені дати крупніші/мілкіші купюри?
7. Will you make my bill ready? - Ви підготуєте мій рахунок?

How to answer questions in a bank or post office

1. Does this bank  exchange foreign currency?
2. Good morning, I am hoping you can help me. Do you exchange foreign currency?

4. Can you tell me what the exchange rate for the Euro?
5. Will I able exchange foreign currency at this post office?
6. Can I cash my traveller's checks here?
7. Will this bank let me cash my travellers checks?

Some answers to the questions above

1. Yes, you can exchange your money here.
2. We can exchange to your currency.
3. Only out main banks on the hight streets can exchange travellers checks. 
4. The exchange rate for Thai Baht is  1 pound for every Thai baht.
5. I would like to exchange 10,000 Baht please.
6. 10,000 Baht at the current exchange rate of 49 baht to every pound  is two hundred and four pounds and eight pence. Here is your cash.

Read and dramatize the dialogues:

Dialogue 1.

Clerk: Good morning.

Customer: Good morning, I'd like to change some Swiss francs into US dollars, please.

Clerk: Certainly, how much would you like to change?

Customer: 500 francs. Here you are.

Clerk: Thank you. Today’s rate is S75.28 for 100 francs... so that's $376.40. Less $5 commission, so that's $371.40. So that's 50,100,150,200,250,300,350 dollars in fifties. And another 20 makes 370 dollars, and one makes 371 — and forty cents. Here you are.

Customer: Thank you. Goodbye.

Clerk: You’re welcome, good bye.

Dialogue 2.

Clerk: Good morning.

Customer: Good morning. Can I change this Japanese money into dollars, please?

Clerk: Certainly, that's 20,000 yen, is that right?

Customer: Yes - what’s the exchange rate?

Clerk: Its $7.14 for 1,000 yen. So that makes $142.80

altogether. Our commission is $10, so that's $132.80  

50,100,110,120', 130,131,132 and 80 cents, here you are.

Customer: OK, thank you. Goodbye.

Clerk: Not at all, goodbye.

Dialogue 3.

Customer: Hi.

Clerk: Hello, sir.

Customer: I want to change this money into dollars - I've got

150 Singapore dollars and 40 New Zealand dollars.

Clerk: Into US dollars?

Customer: Yes.

Clerk: All right, let's see ....that's $98.70 for the Singapore dollars and $31.80 for the New Zealand dollars. That makes a total of $130.50 less commission of $7.50. That comes to $123. Here you are... 50,100.110,120 and 1,2, 3 dollars.

Customer: Thank you.

Dialogue 4.

Clerk: Good morning.

Customer: Hello, I'd like to buy some US dollars, please.

Clerk: I'd like 200, please.

Customer: $200... that's 26,350 yen plus 1 % commission, which makes 28,613 yen altogether.

Clerk: Did you say 1% commission?

Customer: Yes.

Clerk: Hmm. Oh, well, all right. Will you take a cheque?

Customer: Yes, of course, sir, no problem.
