Мета заняття:

• Навчальна: ознайомити з новими лексичними одиницями за темою; навчити граматичних конструкцій для опису призначення предметів (used to + Inf / used for + V-ing).
• Розвивальна: розвивати навички читання з вилученням конкретної інформації, навички говоріння через моделювання професійних ситуацій (рольова гра).
• Професійна: формувати комунікативну компетенцію майбутнього медичного працівника в іншомовному середовищі.

Procedure

I Greeting, Warm-up and Aim

•          Good day, everyone! Glad to see you. Today we are going to talk about something every nurse uses every single day. Look at the screen (or whiteboard). Here is a riddle for you: «I have two ears but cannot hear. I listen to your heart, both far and near. What am I?» (A stethoscope)
•          Correct! Today's topic is Things for Nursing. We will learn how to name medical tools in English and, most importantly, how to explain their functions to patients or colleagues.
•          By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify at least 10 nursing items, read a medical shift report, and complete a role-play.

II The Main Part

1. Vocabulary Presentation.

She takes a sphygmomanometer to measure his blood pressure and places a thermometer under his arm to check for fever. Mr. Davis has a high temperature, so Mary prepares a syringe with antipyretic medication.

Next, she visits Room 4, where a patient needs a dressing change. Mary uses medical scissors to cut some gauze, cleans the wound, and puts on a fresh bandage, securing it with adhesive tape. Finally, she checks the IV drip of the last patient to make sure the fluid is running correctly.

Card A (Senior Nurse): You are supervizing a student nurse. Tell them what items to put on the tray for a patient who needs a blood pressure check, a temperature check, and a new dressing for a wound.

Card B (Student Nurse): You are preparing a tray. Ask the senior nurse what tools you need and clarify what they are used for.
