Types of Questions

Exercise 1: General Questions (Yes/No Questions) 

Form general (yes/no) questions from the statements below.

Example: 

  •           Statement: She enjoys painting in her free time. 
  •           Question: Does she enjoy painting in her free time?

1. He collects stamps from different countries.

2. They play basketball every weekend.

3. I often watch documentaries about travel.

4. She has been learning to play the guitar for a year.

5. We like going hiking during summer holidays.

Exercise 2: Special Questions (Wh- Questions) 

Write special questions (who, what, where, when, why, how) based on the following sentences.

Example: 

  •           Statement: They go skiing in the Alps every winter. 
  •           Question: Where do they go skiing every winter?

1. She practices photography as a hobby.

2. He started learning to dance last month.

3. I enjoy reading historical fiction novels.

4. They paint landscapes during the summer.

5. We attend pottery classes at the community center.

Exercise 3: Tag Questions

Complete the sentences with appropriate tag questions.

Example: 

  •           Statement: You love playing chess, don't you?

1. He likes watching football matches, ________?

2. They often go camping, ________?

3. She has never tried knitting, ________?

4. We will join the art class next week, ________?

5. You enjoy playing video games in your free time, ________?

Exercise 4: Alternative Questions (Choice Questions) 

Write alternative (choice) questions for the following sentences by offering two choices.

Example: 

  •           Statement: She plays either tennis or badminton. 
  •           Question: Does she play tennis or badminton?

1. He prefers painting or sculpting.

2. They usually travel by car or by train.

3. She reads either fantasy novels or mystery novels.

4. We spend our weekends hiking or cycling.

5. You practice yoga in the morning or in the evening.

Exercise 5: Mixed Questions 

For each sentence, create one general question, one special question, one tag question, and one alternative question.

Example: 

  •           Statement: He enjoys playing the piano in his spare time. 
  •           General Question: Does he enjoy playing the piano in his spare time? 
  •           Special Question: What does he enjoy doing in his spare time? 
  •           Tag Question: He enjoys playing the piano, doesn't he? 
  •           Alternative Question: Does he enjoy playing the piano or the guitar?

3. He watches documentaries about ancient civilizations.

4. We play volleyball on the beach every summer.
