  • to review vocabulary for sports;
  • to learn and practise new vocabulary for sports;
  • to make short conversation about different kinds of sports;
  • to solve the puzzle;

P r o c e d u r e

Greetings

T: Good morning! I’m glad to see you again! How are you, Ann? – I’m fine, thank you. And you?

Today we’ll have an unusual lesson. You will have to guess the topic of it. I know that you like riddles.

 

I.Warming up

T-Cl

T: Listen and guess the riddles. What is this?  Be attentive, please! (HO 1)

  1. It is a team game. Both men and women can play it. The players have a ball. They play it with their hands. There are six players in every team.

(Volleyball)

 

  1. It is one of the most popular games in the world. Both men and women can play it. The game last 90 minutes. It has two halves. The players kick the ball and run after it. The players try to score a goal.

(Football)

 

  1. This game is played everywhere in Ukraine: at school or sport clubs. The team has 5 players. They bounce the ball on the floor up and down with one hand. They try to throw the ball into a basket.

(Basketball)

 

T: So, what is the topic of our lesson? Yes, today we’ll speak about sports and games.

 

II. Pronunciation drill

T: I know that you like poems too. Look at the poem. Some words are missing from the text. But you can find pictures instead of them.

Read and try to fill in the gaps (HO 2).

 

Sport is fun for girls and boys.

It’s much better than the toys.

You can have a lot of fun!

T: Work in small group. What kind of sport and games do you know? Let’s make the Word Map.

I win the medal. I don’t like competitions.

T: Let’s play a funny game! “What’s missing?”

Look at the pictures.

Blow 1, Blow 2, Blow 3! Close your eyes! Look at the pictures. What’s missing?

[At the end of the game all pictures disappear and pupils name all of new words]

IV. Speaking

T: I need your help. Look. I can’t read this conversation! Work in pairs and put these sentences in the correct order to make the conversation. Act the conversation.

 

Group 1

A: Do you like swimming?

B: Yes, I do.

A: How about cycling? Do you like cycling?

B: No, I don’t.

A: Do you like playing football?

B: Yes, I do. Football is fantastic!

 

Group 2

A: Do you like sports?

B: Yes, I do.

A: Do you like gymnastics?

B: Yes, it’s great!

A: How about judo? Do you like judo?

B: No, I don’t. I like skiing. Skiing is fantastic!

T: Work in pairs and make your own conversation. Use new vocabulary.

Act the conversation.

 

V. Summarizing

T: The lesson is coming to the end. So, let’s sum up. What have you learned from this lesson?
