You’ve read Shakespeare’s sonnets and plays on your world literature lessons and you’ve learnt his biography but today I want you to learn some new facts about Shakespeare’s life and art.

You’ll work in two groups. Each group has to do the task quickly and correct. You have to cooperate, discuss each task, and answer in time.

Like all such schools, its curriculum ………………..(consist) of an intense emphasis on the Latin classics, including memorization, writing, and acting classic Latin plays. Shakespeare most likely……………(attend) until about age 15.

Group 2

A few years after he……………(leave) school, in late 1582, William Shakespeare………….. ( marry) Anne Hathaway. She…………(be) already expecting their first-born child, Susanna, which……………(be) a fairly common situation at the time. When they ………………..(marry), Anne was 26 and William was 18. Anne…………..( grow) up just outside Stratford in the village of Shottery. After marrying, she……………( spend) the rest of her life in Stratford.

In early 1585, the couple……………(have) twins, Judith and Hamnet, completing the family. In the years ahead, Anne and the children…………….(live) in Stratford while Shakespeare………………( work) in London, although we don't know when he…………..(move) there.

Shakespeare…………..( write) at least 38 plays and over 150 short and long poems, many of which……………….. (consider) to be the finest ever written in English.
