I’m ready to help whenever you come across any real difficulties. Be ready to find  in the text the answers to the following questions:

  1. What was the king worried about?
  2. How did he solve the problem?

AN OFF-THE-WALL ROMANCE

Once upon a time there lived a king and a queen. They had a daughter named Lily.  Lily  grew up to be a beautiful young woman. She was a really nice girl – one in a million. The royal family should have been very happy. Unfortunately, they had a skeleton in the closet. No one else knew it, but Lily ate like a horse.

The king wanted Lily to get married, because she was eating him out of house and home. But Lily was a real wallflower. She had trouble meeting young men. Sometimes the king complained to his wife, “ She’ll never get married. Why  don’t you help her to find a husband? She’s your daughter!”

This made the queen angry. “ Don’t lay the blame at my door, dear. She’s your daughter too.”

The king knew he could not afford to keep feeding Lily. He had to do something  to keep the wolf  from the door. He was thinking about it one day when suddenly the lights came on. What an idea! He would hold an open house. He would invite all the neighbouring rulers and their families to visit his castle. Dozens of rich young princes dressed to the nines would attend. Perhaps one of them would fall in love with Lily and ask her hand in marriage! The queen liked the idea and sent out the royal invitations. It cost a pretty penny.

On the day of the open house, the castle was packed to the doors. The king announced, “Please, help yourselves. Food and drinks are on the house”. The guests feasted and sang and danced. They really raised the roof. The king and the queen sang a love song together. That brought down the house.

Meanwhile, the king kept an eye on his shy daughter. One handsome prince seemed especially interested in her. After each dance, the smiling young man brought Lily a plate of food. She ate the food quickly, and then off they would go to dance again. The king whispered to his wife, “Look! I’m floored!”

The queen nodded. “I’ll soon have to send out invitations again – wedding  invitations. I see the handwriting  on the wall.” Lily’s parents were on cloud nine.

Soon enough, it wasn’t long   before Lily married the prince. She hit the road to his country. He treated her very well. His hobby was cooking and hers was eating, so they got along fine. In fact, they lived happily ever after.
