Type of the lesson: the excursion to the district hospital.

І. Introduction
Greeting and Aim
Т: We’ve got an unusual lesson today – lesson-excursion to the district hospital.
Today we’ll summarize your skills and the target vocabulary in accordance with
speech situation “At the hospital”.

II. Main part of the lesson
Speaking Practice
Т: -The pupils of our form will be guides. (Раніше підготовлені учні класу
виконують роль екскурсоводів, розповідаючи про лікарню та її відділення).
P1: - Health care is a system for keeping people healthy. A healthy person not
only feels good physically but enjoys life. Sometimes people can get ill, they
may feel pain, some part of their body may hurt, or they can get an injury.
Then people go a doctor and ask for help. The doctor tries to find out what
illness the person has and then stars the treatment. The patient can be treated
in different ways. One of them is taking medicines. As a result the patient
can be cured.
T: - What the units of a hospital do you know? (Учні називають).
Now, we have an excursion to our district hospital.
P2: - I want to tell about mean the word “hospital”. The name hospital comes
from Latin hospes (host), which is also the root for the words hotel and
hospitality. During the Middle Ages the hospital was a house for the poor or
a hostel for travellers. A hospital today is an institution for professional
health care given by doctors, nurse and other professionals. Some hospitals
serve as centers for medical education and research. They also try to prevent
disease.
P3: - A hospital may be a single building or a campus. Most hospitals are
divided into various units, each of which cares for certain groups of patients.
Our district hospital has several basic units. Children stay in pediatric unit.
The hospital tries to make pediatric unit as pleasant as possible. This unit
has playrooms and special activities for children.
P4: - Intensive care unit serves critically ill patients. A hospital’s surgical
unit cares for patients waiting for an operation or after it. The hospital also
has an emergency unit that gives care for people who have suddenly
become ill. Our hospital has an intermediate care unit, in which the
professional staff gives care to different kinds of patients.
P5: - The hospital pharmacy provides medicines that doctors order for
patients. The food service department prepares meals for patients and
staff members. The hospital laboratory conducts tests that help doctors
diagnose and treat illnesses. The medical records department keeps a record
of every patient. If former patients return to the hospital, their medical
records helps the doctor diagnose and treat their illness.
P: - Other people also help a hospital bring back health to ill аnd injured
patients. They are cooks, who prepare meals in hospital kitchen,
housekeepers, who keep the hospital clean, electricians, engineers and
many others.

for a doctor.
*You come home and find out that one your parents has fallen ill.
Ask him/her questions about how he/she is feeling.
*You’ve got a bad headache, your nose is running, you are coughing.
Your mother comes to you, feels your forehead and your pulls and asks
you how you feel.
