Урок-екскурсія  Historical Landmarks of London”

(6 клас, за підручником А.Несвіт We Learn English)

Tasks:  тренувати у вживанні вивченої лексики з теми, вчити учнів вести діалог за ситуацією з використанням опор, розвивати навики читання, продовжувати формувати навики письма,  вчити одержувати основну інформацію з прослуханого тексту, розвивати інтелектуальну гнучкість учнів, виховувати дух прагнення до взаєморозуміння між народами

Equipment: a textbook, a copybook, English songs, a video “Top 10 Attractions of London”, a quiz presentation, cards with tasks

  1. Warming-up

T: We like travelling to different places. Some people like travelling to different countries. The other countries are situated far from our place and that’s why we often use different means of transport. Tell me please how you сan get to different places. What means of transport can you use?

Today we make an unusual bus tour round London. Sitting in comfortable armchairs we’ll make an excursion to London to see its historical places. Get on our bus, sit comfortably  and we’ll start the tour.

Close your eyes, think about London and try to imagine it in your mind. What things do you associate with London? Which place do you like best? Why?

III. The Main Part of the Lesson

As we are going to travel by bus we need  tickets. In order to get a ticket we needn’t money. Each team has to answer questions.

  1. Where is Great Britain situated?
  2. What is the official name of the country?
  3. What is the official language of the country?
  4. How many parts does the country consist of?
  5. What is the largest part of Great Britain?
  6. What river does London stand on?

T: Perfect. Take your tickets, open your copybooks, write down the date and get on the bus

T: Read the text quickly and find the names of the main parts of London

 

                                                    London

London is the capital of Great Britain. Its population is more than 8 million people. London stands on the river Thames. It is the largest city in Europe and one of the largest cities in the world.

London is not only the capital of the country; it is also a very big port, one of the greatest commercial centres in the world, a university city, and the seat of the House of Lords and the House of Commons.

The main parts of London are: the City, the West End. the East End and Westminster.

The City is the commercial part of London. Only about ten thousand people live there.

The West End is the richest part of London. You can find the best shops, theatres, cinemas, museums, fine parks and squares there. Its houses and streets are very beautiful. The rich people live in the West End.

The East End is the part of London where working people live. There are not many parks in this part of  London.

There are a lot of places of interest in London: Westminster Abbey, the Tower of London, St. Paul's Cathedral, Buckingham Palace and many others.

  7. Westminster Palace is also known as the Houses of Parliament.
  8. The Houses of Parliament is the seat of the House of Lords and the House of Commons.
  9. The residence of the British monarch is Westminster Palace. (Buckingham Palace)
  10.  London Eye is one of the biggest wheels in the world. It is created for the Christmas celebrations. (Millennium)

 

  1. T: Wonderful!  And we go to the next stop Dialogue Corner. Open your books on page 127 ex. 1.  Read a dialogue and using some key-words and phrases complete it about one of the London places.  (Group Work)

  1. T: There are many wonderful places in London. Make acquaintance with them. Retell your friends about these places. Our bus stops now near

  1. T: Get on the bus. We continue our tour and our next stop is Acquaintance Square. Here we speak about one of the oldest historical landmarks of London “The Tower of London”. Open your books on page 128, Ex.2. Listen and read the text. Which fact about the Tower of London do you find the most interesting?
