Lesson plan

Class: 8

• Level: age – 13-14 years old, mixed level class

• Topic: Favourite Films

Overview: students will listen to the audio recording on https://learnenglishteens.britishcouncil.org/skills/listening/b1-listening/my-favourite-film (teenagers talking about their favourite films) and do some tasks on it before the lesson; students do vocabulary exercises and practise 4 skills at the lesson; they will write a short message about their favourite film and record it on Vocaroo Vocaroo | Online voice recorder

Aim: - students will be able to understand messages and short spoken and written texts about films, to write and to talk about their favourite films;

-they will be able to navigate through the online learning resources on British Council website, use Vocaroo | Online voice recorder and ……

 

Digital literacy: information and communication  digital literacies 

Autonomy: students will work autonomously at home before the lesson

Time: 45 minutes

Pre-lesson task: students will listen to the audio recording on  https://learnenglishteens.britishcouncil.org/skills/listening/b1-listening/my-favourite-film (teenagers talking about their favourite films) and do some tasks on it before the lesson

Procedure:

  1. Warming-up (the teacher describes some genres of films and students try to guess them), e.g.:
  •           This film tells about some real scientific, historical, natural world facts (A documentary)
  1. Homework Checking (the second task after the recording on https://learnenglishteens.britishcouncil.org/skills/listening/b1-listening/my-favourite-film- gap filling, a short discussion about speakers’ favourite films)
  2. Online Quiz on the Topical  Vocabulary  - Group work or Frontal work
  3. Work in Pairs

Teacher gives handouts to the students with a dialogue which they have to complete.

Everyone completes individually and then they practise the dialogue in pairs asking and answering the questions.

-What is your favourite film?

-I like ……………. very much.

-What kind of film is it and what is it about?

-It is a ……………. It tells the story of ……….

- What about the main actors and their performance?

- They are…… Their performance is really …………

-Why do you like this film so much?

- I like it because it is ……………..

5. Work on phrases and synonyms used for writing and talking about favourite films

6. Summarizing, giving a task for homework

Post lesson task: students will  write a short message about their favourite film and record it on Vocaroo Vocaroo | Online voice recorder
