“London: PLACES TO VISIT”

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Objectives:

  • to revise vocabulary connected with the sights of London
  • to enable the pupils to speak about places of interest; to develop their skills of listening
  • to promote pupils’ activity

Material Required:

Enterprise Beginner Course book I; Enterprise I Beginner Grammar Virginia Evans, Jenny Dooley;

the presentation in “Power Point”; projector, notebook, cards with grammar task, cards with the sights of London,

pupils’ projects about native their town

Мета уроку:

  • формувати комунікативні навички;
  • вдосконалювати мовну діяльність учнів з використанням життєво-важливої сучасної інформації

Задачі:

  • освітня: вдосконалювати лексичні навички по темі «Лондон» на рівні вільного висловлювання у виді монологічного та діалогічного мовлення; розвивати навички аудіювання з метою виявлення необхідної інформації
  • розвиваюча: розвивати інтерактивні і творчі здібності, продуктивні мовленнєві дії
  • виховна: прищеплювати повагу та інтерес до іншомовної культури, виховувати культуру спілкування

Тип уроку: комбінований

Обладнання:

Комп’ютер, проектор, презентація та картки з визначними місцями Лондона, відеофільм, роздавальний матеріал з граматичним завданням, дошка, учнівські проекти про рідне місто.

Procedure

I Introduction. Greeting

T. Good morning boys and girls. Glad to see you! How are you?

Ch. Fine, Very well, thanks. All right. Exellent. I feel good.

T. I’m glad that you are in a good mood today. Let’s startour lesson.

 

II Language warm up

T. Wat about your weekend? Was it great?

Ch. Yes, it was excellent.

T. Where did you go?

Ch. I visited my grandparents. I went shopping. I went to the cinema.

T. What did you see?

Ch. I saw the sights of our town. I met many people.

T. Who watched any film or TV program about England?

Ch. I watched “Orel & Reshka”.

T. Was it interesting?

Ch. Yes, it was.

T. What was it about?

Ch. It was about places of interest of London.

 

T. Fine. Today we’ll go on an excursion to London and visit some famous sights. We’ll revise our grammar too. Would you like to be tourists? Welcome to our excursion. (Power Point. File1)

(Practicing vocabulary)

T. Now we are going to London. We are at the airport. Let’s remember some important phrases at the airport.

Ch. Attention, attention

British airlines flight (80) to London is boarding now

We would like to invite all passengers to board

T. Let’s proceed to our plane. We are at the plane now

Fasten your seatbelts

T. Let’s sign our song “London Bridge is falling down” (pupils sign this song, watching the video film on the screen, (see addition 1)

T. Here we are at last. Welcome to London, Ladies and Gentlemen.

Your home task was to prepare topic about London, using the plan from the next about Los Angeles.

  • ACCOMMODATION
  • PLACES TO VISIT
  • EATING OUT
  • SHOPPING
  • ENTERTAINMENT

T. So, the first point is accommodation. What is the best place to stay in London? (Power Point. File 2)

Ch. The hotels in London are more expensive then those in many other English cities, but they are clean and safe. “Four seasons hotel” and “The Ritz London” are five star hotels in the center of town,  “Cafe Royal” and “The Kensington Hotel” are lovely quiet places, and close to special bus stops where you can get cheap rides to the various sights.

T. Where would like to stay?

Ch. I  would like to stay at…

T. Ok, let’s stay and visit some interesting places.

You can see the first part of the famous sight on the blackboard.

Take the second part and stick it to the right part and say what is it.

(The sights are placed in columns on the blackboard. The pupilsone by one go to the blackboard, the teacher gives them the second part with the picture, then the pupils sticks it to the right part on the blackboard)

T. So, you can see, there are many places you can visit in London. Now you’ll see a short film about famous landmarks (video, listening – comprehension). You must notice the places that are mentioned in the text. (After watching the video, pupils should answer the questions)

Ch. In the middle of the 19th century.

Ch. It’s famous for a 56 meter column.

T. What kind of attraction is Piccadilly Circus?

Ch. Piccadilly Circus the heart of the city with its theatres, bars and restaurants.

 

T. We have visited a lot of places of interest. I think you are hungry.

Ch. There are famous restaurants you can eat at, like The Square, place packed with celebrities, or St. John, London’s oldest

Traditional restaurant. For the most delicious French dishes, eat at  Le Gavroche. Luigi’s is the perfect place to enjoy meal with friends.

T. Now it’s time for shopping. Where can you go shopping in London?

P1- What is the most popular place for shopping in London?

P2- Covent Garden, of course. There is a fruit and vegetable market. It’s the place of shops, restaurants and street performances.

P1- And what is the cheapest place for shopping?

P2- You can buy cheap fashionable clothes in Neal Street. In fact, it’s the cheapest and the most fashionable place for shopping.

P1- Thank you for you advice.

P1- I’d like to buy luxurious perfume for my mother. Let’s go to Oxford Street. There are 548 shops in Oxford street. A visit there is always unforgettable.

P2- It’s the biggest shopping street in London. But it’s too expensive. You can’t afford it.

Ch. London is the largest tourist attraction. It has a great number of different districts, you can visit.

Piccadilly Circus is the heart of this lively city with its bars and restaurants. In the evening it attracts millions of tourists.

The nightlife is exciting in Soho too. It’s an area of famous clubs, cinemas with the latest films, and shows. There you can enjoy music, have a drink in a 24 hour cafes, which are popular with visitors, or go for a peaceful walk along the riverside. A visit there is a memorable experience. So, London is a modern fascinating city with something for everyone.

 

You really did your best  and I’m extremely pleased to have such good pupils.
