Unit 1. Lesson 6. Meet my family!

Objectives: to review names of family members, to learn new words of the topic, to practice structures ‘This is …’ and ‘They are …’

Vocabulary: children, friends, boys, girls

Structure: It is …, They are …, Here`s my …

Materials: ‘Family’ flashcards, ‘Familyphone’ printables, PB Audio, coloured pencils and glue.

Outcomes: by the end of the lesson pupils will be able to name the words of the topic, to present their family members, friends, sing the song ‘Here`s my family’.

WARM-UP

1. Start with singing the ‘Hello’ song.
2. Tell the children that you are going to speak about family today. Let children say about their families passing a ball to the first pupil.

Example: P1: I`ve got a mother, a father, a sister and a brother.

                 P2: I`ve got a mother, a father and a brother.

PRESENTATION

1. Ex. 1, 2, p. 12. Get pupils to open their books at p. 12 and prepare to listen to the audio and point to the appropriate picture. Play the audio (Unit 1-L1.-1) and make pauses encouraging pupils to repeat each phrase. Do it twice.

PRACTICE

1. Ex. 3, p. 12. Tell the pupils that they are going to make a paper ‘familyphone’. They have to draw their family members in white squares, cut out the parts of the phone and glue the parts together. Also they`ll tell about themselves and their families as in the ex. 1. Show a ready familyphone. Give children all necessary materials and set timer (8-9 min).

2. Ex. 4, p.13. Tell the pupils that they are going to learn new words. Hold up a flashcard and say the word. Encourage students to repeat it. Do the same with other words. Ask 3-4 pupils to say as in the example and point to the appropriate picture.

3. Get 4 pairs of pupils come up to the board. Give each pair a flashcard: ‘boys’ for the 1^st pair, ‘girls’ for the 2^nd, ‘friends’ for the 3^rd and ‘brother and sister’ for the 4^th. Ask one more pupil come up too. He/She tells about pupils at the board as in the example:

 1) This is Sashko. This is Bohdan. They are boys.

2) This is Katia. This is Yeva. They are girls. 3) This is Vania. This is Ihor. They are friends. 4) This is Ania. This is Dania. They are brother and sister.

ENDING

1. Ex. 5, p.13. End your lesson with singing a song of Ex. 5, p. 13.  Play the audio and tell your pupils to sing along. Sing along together with your pupils.
2. Give homework and say ‘Goodbye’.
