Presenter 1: Dear friends! ‘If you want to be loved, then love’ – wrote Robert Burns. That`s why today we are celebrating one of the best holidays of the year, a festival of love and romance, a holiday which is loved by children and adults. It is St.Valentine`s Day.

Presenter 2: It`s a special day when people tell each other nice things, give small presents to their beloved ones, they speak and sing about love.

(song ‘My heart will go on’)

My heart will go on

Every night in my dreams
I see you, I feel you
That is how I know you go on.

Far across the distance
And spaces between us
You have come to show you go on.

Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more, you opened the door
And you're here in my heart,
And my heart will go on and on.

Love can touch us one time
And last for a lifetime
And never let go till we're gone.

Love was when I loved you,
One true time I hold to
In my life we'll always go on.

Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more, you opened the door
And you're here in my heart,
And my heart will go on and on.

You're here, there's nothing I fear
And I know that my heart will go on.
We'll stay, forever this way
You are safe in my heart
And my heart will go on and on.

Presenter 2: It has been said that we need just three things in life: something to do, something to look forward to and someone to love.

Presenter 1: It`s really true. Love is one of the best and strongest feelings of the world. Everybody in our universe needs love.

Presenter 2: Love helps us to solve different problems, love supports us and opens a road into amazing life full of fantastic impressions and wonderful emotions. But do you know why this day is called St.Valentine`s Day? Who was this Valentine?

Presenter 1: There are several stories about the origin of the day but according to one legend Valentine was a Christian priest in the Roman Empire. Better let`s see what happened.

(Dramatization of the scene)

Voice: When the Roman Emperor Claudius II needed soldiers for his army, he made a special law that forbade young men to marry because he was sure that single men were better soldiers. But at that time there lived a priest called Valentine. He couldn`t agree with the emperor`s decision. When he saw that young couples were truly in love, he married them secretly.

Boy: Please, marry us. We love each other truly! We can`t live without each other.

Girl: I`ll die if you don`t marry us. Please, we beg you. Help us. (on knees)

Priest: I see how much you love each other. I`ll help you. My daughter! My son! I declare you husband and wife! Live long and be happy!

(music)

Soldier: Priest, how dare you break the law? You are condemned to death. To prison! To prison!

(takes him away)

Boy and girl: Farewell, Father!

(In prison a guard with his daughter)

Priest: What a beautiful girl! But she looks so sad, my poor child.

Guard: This is my daughter. She is so unhappy. She is blind. She`ll never enjoy the light of the sun! She`ll never see the blue sky, the trees and flowers.

Priest: I`ll help you. Come up to me, poor child. Don`t be afraid.

(The girl comes up to the priest, he puts his hands over her eyes and whispers something)

Girl: I can see. You`ve worked a miracle! Thank you! May I come to visit you every day?

Priest: Unfortunately, tomorrow, on February 14, I am to die. But I`m not scared and I want to tell everybody on earth ‘I love you. I am your Valentine!’

Voice: Just before his death, on February 14, Valentine sent the girl a farewell message which he signed ‘From your Valentine’.

Presenter 2: Now I know where this holiday comes from and why so many people worldwide celebrate it.

Presenter 1: Love is a strong feeling. Sometimes it makes us sacrifice something that we really like.

Presenter 2: Sometimes people don`t cherish this deep feeling and understand it`s value only when they lose it. They then try to express their feelings of loss and grieve in their songs.

(Song ‘It must have been love’)

It must have been love

Lay a whisper on my pillow
leave the winter on the ground
I wake up lonely there's air of silence
in the bedroom and all around
touch me now
I close my eyes and dream away

It must have been love
but it's over now
it must have been good
but I lost it somehow
It must have been love
but it's over now
from the moment we touched
'til the time had run out

Make-believing we're together
that I'm sheltered by your heart
but in and outside I've turned to water
like a teardrop in your palm
and it's a hard Christmas (winter's) day
I dream away

It must have been love
but it's over now
it was all that I wanted
now I'm living without
It must have been love
but it's over now
it's where the water flows
it's where the wind blows

Presenter 1: Literature is also rich in tales of love, a lot of them are with a happy ending, but there are many tragedies. ‘Romeo and Juliet’ is a tale of true tragic love that is stronger than death.

Presenter 2: Yes, I remember it. The young lovers, Romeo and Juliet are from two noble families. Their families were at war but the love of young people was so great and pure that even their families saw it. Though it was too late. You must watch this said story.

(Extract from Romeo and Juliet)

Presenter 1: Love can hurt you, love makes you fly.

Presenter 2: Falling in love is awfully simple, but falling out of love is simply awful.

Presenter 1: People have been trying to express their feelings of love, happiness, grieve or sadness through songs, poems, theatrical performances but there`s one more great tool for expressing your feelings and emotions. Can you guess what is it?

Presenter 2: Of course it`s never dying dance.

(Dance)

Presenter 1: Poetry is the most impressive and effective way of saying love words. We get many messages on this day from different students. These messages are often written in rhyme. Let`s be poets now. We will read short poems and you should finish them. Be attentive, the answers are in our hall.

(Presenters read the beginning and audience guesses the ending)

You are much sweeter than honey

And you are also very….(funny).

My darling Pete,

You are very …(sweet).

I love you, Trevor,

You are very…(clever).

Do you like me, Kate?

I think you are…(great).

Please, be my girlfriend, Lizzie.

Don`t say that you are…(busy).

This poem is for a boy called Andrew Knight.

I like you because you are always…(bright).

Presenter 1: We`ve tried ourselves in poetry. Now let`s listen what professional artists think of love.

(Poems)

From My Heart

A million stars up in the sky,

one shines brighter I can't deny

A love so precious, a love so true,

a love that comes from me to you.

The angels sing when you are near,

within your arms I have nothing to fear.

You always know just what to say,

just talking to you makes my day.

I love you honey with all of my heart,

together forever and never to part.

True Love

When I say I love you, please believe it's true.

When I say forever, know I'll never leave you.

When I say goodbye, promise me you won't cry,

Because the day I'll be saying that - will be the day I die.

A Dream Come True

Feelings that once were hidden

Are now expressed to you.

Days that once were stormy

Are now the brightest blue.

Times that once were lonely

Are now filled with pleasure.

All that once was mine alone

Are now things we both treasure.

Nights that once were cold

Are now comforting and warm.

Fears that once were very real

Are now gone with the storm.

A heart that once was broken

Can now finally mend.

A person once alone in life

Can now call you a friend.

Dreams that once were longed for

Are now all coming true.

The love I once thought was gone

I have now and forever in you.

***

I was sort of hoping,

That you would come along,

Like the answer to a prayer,

And the music to a song.

Like the kind of thing that happens,

At a special place and time,

That will change our lives forever,

Like a fantasy of mine.

The fantasy was there before

I ever knew your name,

And now that I have found you,

We will never be the same.

So, pardon, if I look at you,

Forgive me if I stare,

At the fantasy I knew before,

I saw you standing there.

For I was always hoping,

That you would come along,

Like the answer to a prayer,

And the music to a song.

Presenter 2: For true love there is no time, difficulty or death.

Presenter 1: If you love, you have a really full life.

Presenter 2: If you love, take care of your love, defend your love.

Presenter 1: We wish you good luck and success.

(Final song)

I just called to say I love you

No New Year's Day to celebrate
No chocolate covered candy hearts
To give away

No first of spring
No song to sing
In fact here's just another ordinary day

No april rain
No flowers bloom
No wedding Saturday within the month of june
But what it is, is something true
Made up of these three words that
I must say to you

I just called to say I love you
I just called to say how much I care
I just called to say I love you
And I mean it from the bottom of my heart

No summer's high
No warm July
No harvest moon to light
One tender August night
No autumn breeze
No falling leaves
Not even time for birds to fly to southern skies

No Libra sun
No Halloween
No giving thanks to all The Christmas joy
You bring
But what it is, though old so new
To fill your heart like no three words
Could ever do

I just called to say I love you
I just called to say how much I care
I just called to say I love you
And I mean it from the bottom of my heart
Of my heart, of my heart
