Topic: “Animals”

Objectives: to revise the vocabulary the children already know, to learn new words, to make sentences using I like/I don’t like;

to develop students’ speaking, writing, reading and listening skills;

to improve students’ communication and collaboration skills, critical thinking skills, creativity, the ability to work in groups.

Outcomes: by the end of the lesson pupils will be able to identify zoo animals, to name, write, read and understand the material on topic “Animals” using the appropriate vocabulary and grammar structures.

Materials: flashcards on topics “Animals” , handouts, a laptop, a TV set, a poster ‘ABC”, a story-poster.

Procedure

I. Introduction.

1. Greeting.

-Good morning, children! I’m glad to see you! Are you ready for the lesson? I hope you are. Let’s start with a game with a ball.

- Let’s make a circle. Ask each other questions about yourself. (Game with a ball)

2. Phonetical exercise.

I’ve got a pet,

It is a cat

His name is Fred

I love my cat.

3. Telling the aim of the lesson.

- Look at the board. There are numbers on it. Put the letters in correct order to make a word and then you will know the topic of our lesson.

- At this lesson we will learn new words on topic “Animals”, we will describe animals and do some reading, writing, speaking and listening activities on this topic.

II. Review.

1. Vocabulary revision

-First of all, let’s revise the words on this topic. You know some words from the first form. Let’s name them. There will be two teams. Game “Name the animal”.

III. The main part of the lesson.

1. Presentation.

- Do you like the zoo? What animals can you see at the zoo?

- Let’s learn some new words. (Use flashcards 105-107 to elicit the zoo animals for this lesson. Hold them up one at a time and ask What's this?)

2. Reading acitivity.

- Listen, point and repeat. (p. 72/80) Listen and chant.

3. Game “What’s missing?”

- Let’s play the game. You will close your eyes, I will hide one card and you must guess the missing word.

4. Reading.

- Look at the poster. Who can you see? Where are they? What animals can you see?

- And now listen to the story and after that answer my questions:

Does Billy like elephants/giraffes/monkeys? Why?/Why not?

- Read the story and translate.

IV. Physical exercise.

Song “The Animal Song”.

V. Review.

1. Speaking.

- You’ve read about Billy’s favorite animals. And now let’s say what animals you like or don’t like.

There are 2 columns. You have to take the picture, put it in the right column for you and say the sentence.

2. Writing.

- Open your workbook on p.80, ex.1(match).

And now let’s write the sentences in ex.2, p.81.

3. Group work.

- Now you are ready to work in groups. You have to match and stick the parts of the sentence. And then guess what animal is it. Choose the right picture and stick it. But don’t show the other teams. At the end you will read the description and they have also to guess what animal is this.

Now, you have to present the task and read the sentences. But don’t name the animal.

4. Listening Comprehension

-And now I will read you some texts about animals. And you will try to guess what animal it is.

It is big. It has got four short legs and a long tail. It has got a big mouth and big teeth. It is green. And it is very dangerous. (A crocodile)

This animal is small. It is brown. It has got a long tail. It is funny and it likes bananas. (A monkey)

This animal is long. It is very dangerous. (A snake)

This animal is not big. It can run very fast. It is black and white. (A zebra)

It is small. It is red, green, yellow and blue. It can fly. (A parrot).

VІ. The final part of the lesson.

1. Summerising.

So, children, our lesson is going to the end. You were very active and that’s why I’ll give you high marks today.
