 “Books in our life.”

 

   Aims:  

  1. to reinforce key vocabulary and concepts associated with the theme of the lesson;
  2. to develop dialogical speech skills;
  3. to develop sts’s flexibility, curiosity, quick reaction.

 

Aids: CD player, books, handouts with texts.

 

Procedure:

 

І.Introduction:

T: Good morning, dear friends! I am glad to meet you again in our English room. So, today we are going to continue our journey in the world of books. You are welcome to join and to be active participants. So, let’s start!

T: What did we speak on the previous lesson about?

P: We spoke about different types of books.

 

ІІ.Warm up activity:

 

T: That’s right. So, let’s remember the names of the types of books.

 (“Snowball” game).

T: Well done. And now your task is to name them as quickly as you can. The person who names the most during one minute will win. So, let’s start!

And now you are to guess the type of the book your friend names.

 E.g.: S1: “The lord of the rings”.

          S2:  An adventure story.

 

ІІІ. Main part:

 

  1. Home task check:
  2. T: Different people like to read different kinds of books. What about Jane from

 Ex.2 p.63? What kind of books does she like reading?

Why does she think that reading books is a great thing?

  1. Vocabulary practice:

T: And now you are to help Jenny. She wants to buy books for her family for Christmas. Help her to choose the best book for each member of her family and complete Jenny’s notes.

 

Mum: - My hobby is going to the theatre.

 

 Dad: - I like exciting books.

 

Aunt Alice: -  I enjoy reading love stories.

 

Uncle Steve: -  I’m very interested in the future.

 

Grandpa: - I think the life of famous people are fascinating.

 

Grandma: - I like feeling frightened when I read a book.

 

 

These are the books:

 

  1. “Winston Churchill” L.PGrant.

 

  1. “Journey to Saturn” Clare Backby.

 

  1. “Tales from the grave” Steve Marshall.

 

  1. “Melissa meets her prince” Merilyn Du Pont.

 

  1.  “Escape from fortress F.10” Barry Stenton.

 

  1. “Romeo and Juliet” William Shakespeare.

T: So, our work with you is coming to the end. So, let’s summarize why people read books.

Because books:

  • tell us about the surrounding world;
  • develop artistic taste;
  • broaden our outlook;
  • entertain us;
  • give information;
  • provide us with facts about life in the past;
  • reflect real life;
  • focus our attention on some events.
