Objectives:

• to present new vocabulary
• to develop reading and speaking skills
• to help students make predictions about the reading text based on visual prompts
• to give students practice in reading for gist

Outcomes:

• by the end of the lesson, students will be able to make predictions about the reading text based on pictures
• use the new vocabulary on the topic "Travelling"

Materials: Student’s books, workbooks, computers or mobile phones, audio CD.

Procedure

І. Introduction

Greeting and Aim

Teacher: "Good morning, everyone! How are you today?"

Expected students' responses: "Pretty good", "Not bad", "We’re great".

Teacher: "Today we’re going to talk about travelling. We’ll learn new words and develop our reading and speaking skills. The topic of our lesson is 'Travelling'."

Warm-up
Teacher: "What comes to your mind when you hear the word 'travelling'? For example: airplane, train, hotel, sea."

(Students share words, and the teacher writes them on the board: airplane, train, hotel, sea, adventure, etc.)

ІІ. Main Part

Vocabulary

Teacher: "Listen and repeat the new words."

(Students repeat: travel, adventure, journey, flight, trip, cruise, destination, explore).

Teacher: "Now, look at the pictures and tell me which types of transportation you can see."

(Students name: airplane, train, car, boat).

Reading

Teacher: "Before we start reading, try to predict what the text will be about by looking at the title and pictures in the book."

(Students make predictions).

Teacher: "Now let’s listen and read the text."

(Students listen and read a text about travelling).

Teacher: "Now, answer the following questions based on the text."

• What type of transport did the main character use for their journey?
• Where were they travelling to?
• What were their impressions of the trip?

Speaking
Teacher: "Imagine you are planning a trip with your friend. Create a dialogue using the new vocabulary."

(Students work in pairs and create dialogues following this plan:

• Where do you want to travel?
• What type of transport will you choose?
• What do you want to see or do during your trip?
• Students present their dialogues to the class.)

ІІІ. The Final Part of the Lesson

Summarising

Teacher: "Thank you for your work! What did you enjoy most about today’s lesson? Were there any difficulties?"

(Students respond to the questions).

Hometask

Teacher: "For your homework, find 5 new words related to travelling and write sentences with them."
