Love is in the air

(St. Valentine’s Day lesson)

Type: Project lesson with party elements for students of grades 5 and 7.

Aim: developing listening, speaking, thinking, reading and writing skills using vocabulary and clues of the lesson; to bring up kindness, love and respect to each other and Motherland.

Equipment and facilities: ppt presentation, desks are put for students to sit in four, colorful stickers, 3 paper sheets (A3 or bigger), scissors, glue and good mood.

PROCEDURE

1. Lead-in:

Aim: to get students interested in the topic

T: What day is it today? What is in the air? (Slide1,2)

T: What can we love? (Ss brainstorm) (slide 3)

Now tell what things and people you love? Look at the clues.(slide 4)

Ss: speak and write on the stickers than glue them on the board.

 (Upbringing):

Aim: to bring up Ss’ patriotic  feelings

T: speaks about love to Motherland

All together sing a song “Ukraine is our Motheland” (slide 5,6)

2. Presentation+Practice+Production

Aim: to develop and elicit speaking, reading

T: Lets discuss some questions (slide7)

Ss present their ideas answering the questions.

Then younger Ss ( grade 5) do the tasks (slide 8,9,10)

Task1: Unscramble the secret message.

Task 2: Find a couple for cartoon characters.

Task 3: Put the words in order according to the color code.

(Relaxation)

Ss sing a song “Little valentine”(slide11)

3. Project work

Aim: to develop and elicit speaking, reading and writing skills

T: Now let’s do some project “Love is” To do it you should do some tasks. (slides13-15)

Task 1: Put the words into correct order and match to the pictures

Task 2: Match the phrases with the pictures

Task 3: Complete the phrases

Checking answers (in pairs with teacher’s coments)

Ss use stickers, write on them and glue to the boards.

Younger students (grade 5 ) do the crossword.

Sum up:

T: So, St. Valentine’s day is about love, care and kindness. Now, please make a kindness notes and glue them to the board.

Ss sing karaoke song “Don’t worry, be happy”
