Підтема: « Різні види природніх катаклізмів та шляхи їх попередження (“Different Kinds of Natural
Disasters and the Ways of Their Prediction”)
Цілі уроку: 1) практична: активізувати вживання лексики по темі, пригадати основні екологічні проблеми сьогодення, формувати навики говоріння, письма і аудіювання;
2) розвиваюча: розвивати довготривалу і короткотривалу пам'ять, фонематичний
слух, мовну здогадку, комунікативну компетенцію учнів шляхом використання
автентичних матеріалів;
3) виховна: виховувати розуміння актуальності проблеми забруднення навколишнього
середовища, сприяти розвитку бажання зберегти планету та види, які її населяють;
4) освітня: розширити знання учнів про види природніх катаклізмів та визначити
вплив людини на життя планети; вказати на небезпеку забруднення навколишнього середовища та наслідки від забруднення
Обладнання: підручник О.Карп’юк “English 10”, робочий зошит, CD-програвач, комп’ютер,
мультимедійна презентація «Natural Disasters», ілюстрації по темі, тематична пісня «Earth
Song», відео ролики, індивідуальні картки для самостійної роботи.

T: Good morning, dear students! I’m glad to see you today!
How are you today?
Great! I expect you will be hardworking and active at this lesson as usually.

T: To begin with, I’d like you to read the quotation on the сomputer monitor . It’s the motto of our lesson. The words of the great philosopher Mahatma Gandhi are very actual nowadays, аren’t they?
- Do you agree with this quotation?
- What does the quotation mean to you?
P:Yes, our planet is in a danger. The problem of pollution has become more important today. Using automobiles and other machines made pollution worse. Air, water and soil are necessary for existence of all living things. But polluted air can cause illness, and even death. Polluted water kills fish and other marine life. We must help our planet.

T: You know, that people all over the world are worried about our environment. Many famous people make their contribution to the protection of environment. I suggest you listening to the song and pay attention to the question:

T: Earth Day is celebrated on the 22-nd April in more than 175 countries including Ukraine every year to show how much they care about the planet.

T: Look on the computer monitor and name the natural hazards you will see. Then choose the definitions from the Pupil’s Book , Ex.5, р.95-96 to each of them and read to the class.

T: It is clearly that many natural disasters are interrelated. For example, earthquake can cause tsunami and drought that can lead directly to famine. So people should be more careful using the natural wealth.

PERSONALITY QUIZ
ARE YOU ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY?
It is personal action that will help preserve the world's environment. Actions, which are simple and quick. There are many actions each person can take every day. Try this test to know if you are environmentally aware.
Each positive answer gives you one point, each negative answer gives you a zero. You:
- Would rather walk or ride a bike than use means of transportation.
- Turn off light and other electrical equipment when not in use.
- Take shorter showers to save water.
- Write on both sides of paper to save trees.
- Put on more clothing in winter instead of turning up the electric heater.
- Buy products that are recycled, recyclable, reliable, repairable, refillable, reusable.
- Try to cook several meals at a time.
- Repair leaking taps.
- Use mugs or glasses instead of paper cups.
- Make sure the refrigerator door is fully closed.
- Use the clothes line rather than a dryer.
- Use energy efficient light bulbs.
- Do not pour oil, fat, milk, chemicals down the sink.
- Do not drop litter around.
- Look for opportunities to reduce trash.
- Reuse bags, containers, paper, boxes and other items.
- Select products with the least wasteful packaging.
- Buy, sell or donate used goods such as clothes, furniture or appliances.
- Encourage your friends to be environmentally friendly.
Count your score and analyse the results.
16—19: You definitely think globally and act locally. Good for you.
11—15: You are quite environmentally friendly but there are actions you can take to be more environmentally aware.
Less than 11: You could be characterized as a person who doesn't make an effective and posi¬tive contribution to the environmental protection. You forget that this is the world for you and your future children to live in. Try not to be so indifferent to the world's environment. Learn how to preserve it.
