Мета:
долучити учнів до найкращих надбань художньої літератури;
розширити знання учнів про роль книги у житті людини;
виховувати в дітей любов та бережливе ставлення до книги;
заохотити учнів читати та вчитися критично мислити,
розвивати усні комунікативні вміння,культуру сценічного мовлення, артистизм, креативність та бажання аналізувати та філософствувати;
виховувати інтерес до читання творів зарубіжної літератури.
Оформлення залу:
1) портрети англійських та американських письменників.
2) великий плакат, на якому написано, як слід поводитися з книжками.
3) учнівські проекти “My Favourite Book”.

У кутку оформлено стенд, що нагадує книжкову полицю, над яким великий заголовок — "Our favourite books". На стенді— книжки. Назви книжок написано на обкладинці великими літерами.
The Procedure
T: Good morning, pupils and guests! I’m glad to see you today.
Look around and you’ll easily guess the topic of the lesson. It is dedicated to books which are the sources of knowledge and information.
Today we are going to talk about the role of books in the people’s life, and about people who write books. We want to listen to your opinions about reading, about your favourite books, and their authors. I hope you will be energetic and active.
T: Do you like literature?
What writers do you know?
What is your favourite book?
T:Before reading the book you should follow some rules. Who knows them?
Library Rules:
1) Wash your hands before you begin to read.
2) Do not write anything on the pages with a pen or pencil.
3) Do not make drawings in the book.
4) Do not make dog's ears in the book.
5) Do not tear the pages.
6) Do not lose your books or leave them in shops or buses. That means that you lose your friends.
7) Return the books in time.
T: Despite the popularity of watching TV and the developing of World Wide Web, reading is still very important. It has got a power both to entertain and educate people. Books help us to discover new things and explore new ideas. A book is one of the greatest wonders in the world. It gives a unique chance to link up with authors who lived hundreds and thousands years ago. Thanks to books we can talk to people who lived in different ages and countries. Through reading books we hear their voices, thoughts and feelings. Moreover books portray life in its richness, so they develop reader's imagination and arouse curiosity, admiration. Sometimes they even can help to solve difficult problems of life.
T:What sayings and proverbs about books do you know?
Possible answers:
Books are our best friends.
A good book is a source of wisdom.
Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.
Wear the old coat and buy a new book.
Choose a book as you choose a friend.

Guess the writers. Your task is to write down their names.
An English writer who was born in Ireland in 1667. His novel “The Gulliver’s Travel” is known all over the world (Jonathan Swift).
A famous English children’s writer. His first book appeared in 1865. It was a fairy-tale about a small girl and her adventures in wonderful land (Lewis Carroll).
An English writer, he was born in India. One of books was called “The Jungle Book” where the main hero is Mowgli. (Rudyard Kipling)
The main hero of his book is Robinson Crusoe. (Daniel Defoe)
A British writer. He was born in Scotland and created a famous character – the detective Sherlock Holmes (Sir Arthur Conan Doyle).
A modern English writer, she was born in 1965, she wrote her first book at 5 or 6 years old, her first book about Harry Potter was published in 1997 (J. K. Rowling).
T: Most children like to read and think that books are their friends, I think so too. I like to read very much. And what do you think about books, boys and girls?
Pupils. Books are our friends.
В о у. I hold my book with my both hands. And read about some foreign lands; and so I get to know all kinds of places where people live with different fates.
Shop-keeper. What do book-shops sell?
Children. Big books and little books, picture-books as well, just think of all the lovely books that all the bookshops sell.
Shop-keeper. Here are some jokes for you to read. I think, dear boys and girls, you'll like them all indeed and here you see some story-books just for you to read and I hope, you'll enjoy them all.
Boy. Since books are friends, they need much care when you're reading them. Be good to them and fair! Use book-marks, children to hold your place. And don't you turn a book upon its clear face!

Librarian. Boys and girls! I am a librarian. Now have a look at this book! It was written many years ago by a famous English writer, Charles Dickens. But it is still very popular among children and grown-ups all over the world. David Copperfield, as you know is the main character in Dicken's novel. I know some of you are fond of English and American literature. I help the readers to choose books. They often take books, written by Mark Twain "The adventures of Tom Sowyer and Huckleberry Finn", Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland", Rudyard Kipling's "Just so stories". Older children take "Romeo and Juliet" by William Shakespeare, Jack London's "Martin Eden" and books by Ernest Hemingway.
L: What are you reading now?
P: A book of poems. They were written by Robert Burns.
L: Are you reading them in English?
L: What English fairy-tales do you know?

P:You are wrong. Books are our friends.
Boy: My friend is a ball.
P: You must be careful with books.
L: I shall give you new and interesting books about sport and football. Do you want to read them?
Boy: Yes, I do. All right. Thank you.
T:The most amusing attraction is waiting for you in the left hand comer. You have to catch an apple in the water with the help of a fork. I wish you good luck.
Wait a minute. You mustn't see anything. I'll tie this beautiful scarf in such a way that you'll see nothing. Try your luck, all of you.
Baba Yaha: Please, come here and look at this donkey. I am sure that you have recognized your old friend Eeyore. He has lost his tail, but I have found it. Here it is, if you manage to fix it in its proper place you'll be given a prize.
На магнітній дошці прикріплені в різних місцях вирізані з картону віслючок та його хвостик. Потрібно прикріпити цей хвостик віслючку із закритими очима.
Ghost. Shoeing chairs, to my mind, are one of the most exciting attractions. You can see two chairs some distance away. I'll call pupils from each team one after another. Come up to the chair with his eyes closed and try his or her best to shoe all the legs of the chair. As soon as he has done it, another pupil from his team comes up to take part in this competition.
Ведучий конкурсу зав'язує очi представникам команд. Завдання учасників — дійти до свого стільця, намацати iграшкові черевички, що лежать біля нього, та взути їx на ніжки стільця. Після цього учасник повертається на своє місце, виходить інший представник команди.
Fortune-teller. If you want to know what awaits you in the nearest future, you are welcome to my place. I'll tell you everything and my assistant, the wise parrot, will choose a lucky card for you.

His Daughter— she is beautiful, but cannot speak. .
Scene I
Plасe: a poorly furnished room in Jack's Mother's house. A table and three chairs are on the left. The fire-place and one chair are on the right. The Mother is sitting on this chair. She is spinning and humming a song. Jack is sitting by the fire and doing nothing. It is Monday.
Mother (stands). I'm so tired. I can't work all day and half the night. I Jack! Why don't you go to work and help me? You do nothing but lie in the sun in summer and sit by the fire in winter.
Jack is silent.
Mother (angrily). If you don't begin to work for your food, I'll turn you out of the house!
Jack (stands). All right, Mother! I'll go to one of the neighbouring farmers tomorrow and ask him to give me some work. (He leaves.)
Curtain
It is Tuesday. The Mother appears in front of the curtain. Jack comes in.
Mother. Well, Jack, did you get any work?
Jack. Yes, I did. And the farmer gave me a penny.
M о t h e r (in surprise). Oh! Well, where is your penny?
Jack (sadly). I've lost it.
Mother. You silly boy! How did you do that? Why didn't you put it in your pocket?
Jack. I'll do so another time.
They go off. The story-teller appears.
Story-teller. On Wednesday Lazy Jack went out again and worked for a cowman, who gave him a jar of milk for his day's work. Jack took the jar of milk and put it into the large pocket of his jacket. But the milk was all spilt long before he got home. Look, he is coming home now.
Jack appears from the left, his Mother — from the right.
Mother. What did you get for your work today, Jack?
Jack (goes up to her. He looks upset). The cowman gave me a jar of milk.
Mother (angrily). And where is the milk?
Jack. Don't be angry, Mother, I put the jar into the large pocket of my jacket and the milk was ill spilt.
Mother. Oh! Why didn't you carry the jar very carefully in your hands? You silly boy!
Jack. I'll do so another time, Mother. Jack and his Mother go off.
Story-teller. On Thursday Lazy Jack went out and worked again. But all he got for his work was a large cat. He carried the cat in his hands, but in a short time the cat scratched him so much that he let it go. Look at his face and hands!
Jack comes from the left with red scratches on his face and hands. His Mother comes from the right and goes up to him.
Mother. What's the .matter? What has happened to you?
Jack (looks upset). I got a cat for my work. I carried it very carefully in my hands, but the cat scratched me so much that I let it go and it ran away.
They go off. The Story-teller appears.
Story-teller. On Friday Lazy Jack went out again to work and got a large piece of meat for his work. He tied a string to it, and dragged it along after him. By the time he got home the meat was dirty and quite spoilt. This time his Mother said, "You foolish boy! Why didn't you carry it on your shoulder?" Next Monday Lazy Jack went out again and worked the whole day. This time he got a donkey for his work and put it on his shoulder. Look, he is coming here.
Jack appears with donkey on his shoulder and walks slowly across the stage.
Story-teller. On his way home Jack passes the house of a rich man. This man has an only daughter. She is very beautiful but she cannot speak. She has never laughed in her life, and the doctors have said she will never speak till somebody makes her laugh.
Curtain
Scene II
The Rich Man and His Daughter are looking out of the window of their house. Jack appears with the donkey on his shoulder.
Rich Man (begins to laugh). Look at that young man. He's trying to carry a donkey on his shoulder. Ha-ha-ha-ha! (The Daughter bursts out laughing.) Ha-ha-ha-ha!
Rich Man (in delight). Oh, she's laughing! She's laughing! She'll begin to speak now, I hope. Thank you very much, young man.
Jack (points at the girl). What is she laughing at?
Daughter. Ha! ha! ha! ha! How funny he is, with that donkey on his shoulder. I'll never stop laughing!
Rich Man (to Jack). You have made her laugh, and now she can speak. You marry her if you like.
Jack. I'm willing. I'll marry your daughter. She's beautiful.
Jack puts down the donkey and he and the Rich Man's Daughter join hands. The Story-teller appears.
Story-teller. Soon they were married and went to live in a large, beautiful house. Jack's mother came and lived with them in great happiness until she died.
Curtain
Teacher:I hope you understand that without books our life will be empty and boring. Read good books and enjoy them. Keep reading books because a book is the music of the soul, the road to happiness, the source of power, the fountain of wisdom.
