T: Good afternoon, dear guests and pupils! Nice to see you. Our English club is dedicated to our Motherland-Ukraine.

Т:Добрий день, наші шановні гості, діти. Ми раді вас вітати на засіданні нашого англійського гуртка, присвяченому нашій Батьківщині – Україні. Сподіваємося, що сьогоднішнє ЗАНЯТТЯ  буде захопливим, яскравим, хвилюючим, оскільки Україна- це наша рідна домівка.

P1: The country we were born is our Motherland, our native land. Our Motherland is our native city or village, the house we live in, the snowball tree in our gardens and our Ukrainian songs and dances. Країна, де ми народилися- це наша Батьківщина, наша рідна земля.  Батьківщина – це рідне місто чи село, будинок, де ми народилися, калина у садку та наші українські пісні та танці.

 

P2:  We live in Ukraine, a beautiful land

        It’s home for me and you, my friend,

        Its towns and villages are so nice

        The Ukrainian people are wise.

 

P3:  We were born in Ukraine, so we are Ukrainian children, the future of our wonderful country. Ми народилися в Україні, тому ми українці, майбутнє нашої дивовижної країни.

 

P4:  Україна — одне з найдорожчих слів, наповнене теплом і ніжністю. Це наша Батьківщина.

  You suffered much.

You’ve lost the sons of thine.

But you managed to become free again

And stayed young through fights and pain.

 

Sweet Ukraine, I can’t explain, how very much you mean to me.

Azure sky, golden grain, you’re everything I dreamed that you would be.

From the wondrous streets of Kyiv to the villages and towns,

From the northern steppes to southern shining sea,

 

From the eastern mind of Kharkiv and the rugged far frontier,

From the western heart, L’viv, you call to me!

Odesa calls my name and the Crimea takes me home,

Dnipropetrovs’k powers all I see,

 

Donets’k provides the roses in my borderland bouquet,

But the heart of Sweet Ukraine just sings to me.

I feel the force of heaven in the faces of the men,

And the power of the women in the wind,

 

 

The promise of tomorrow in the student and the child,

Like the heroes of the past, we’ll rise again.

Sweet Ukraine, may freedom reign, while the rivers run into the sea.

From the fields of Sweet Ukraine, to the mountains let the flag be free…

 

 

 

P5 Love your dear Motherland,

Love it with your whole heart.

Love Ukraine when the days are happy,

Love it when they are dark.

Cherish your mother tongue,

Cherish your family root.

Never stop thinking of your parents

And their life good.

 

P6 Ukraine, the native land of mine

You suffered much.

Т: Love of Motherland is an eternal, sacred feeling. Our forefathers loved it deeply. They devoted their whole love to it. Любов до Батьківщини вічне, святе почуття. Наші предки любили її глибоко. Вони присвятили всю свою любов їй.

 

P7 For example, Yaroslav the Wise did so much for Kyi van Rus’.  He did everything possible to defeat the enemies of Kyivan Rus’. Up to the very last minutes of his life he never stopped thinking of his native land.

 

Before his death he gathered his sons and said to them: “Live in peace and friendship. Live in love for you are brothers, sons of the one father and mother. If you live in love and trust in God, you will get victory over your enemy. And if you live in hatred and discord, you, yourselves, will perish and ruin the land of your father and grandfather. Remember, you must al­ways love your Motherland with your whole hearts.”

 

Наприклад, Ярослав Мудрий зробив так багато для Київської Русі. Він правив більше 30 років і зробив величезний внесок в його Батьківщину. Саме він спорудив Софіївській Собор, перлину нашої України. Ярослав Мудрий зробив все можливе, щоб перемогти ворогів Київської Русі. До самих останніх хвилин свого життя він ніколи не переставав думати про свою рідну землю. Перед смертю він зібрав своїх синів і сказав їм: «Живіть у мирі і дружбі. Живіть в любові до вас брати, сини одного батька і матері. Якщо ви живете в любові і вірі в Бога, ви отримаєте перемогу над ворогом. А якщо ви живете в ненависті і розбраті, ви, самі, загинете і погубите землю свого батька і діда. Пам'ятайте, що ви повинні завжди любити Батьківщину всім своїм серцем».

 

These wonderful words are worth remembering. They are very important nowadays. They are full of sense.

Ці чудові слова варто пам'ятати. Вони дуже важливі в наш час. Вони сповнені сенсу.

 

 

P8 When speaking about Taras Shevchenko I can’t help saying that he was a loyal son of Ukraine. Shevchenko’s love of Motherland was bound­less. He suffered so much because of his people’s hard and unhappy life. Taras Shevchenko dedicated his whole life to his Motherland. The name of Taras Shevchenko symbolises the generous soul of the Ukrainians. Wherever Taras Shevchenko was, he never stopped thinking of his people, his Home­land. He wrote such wonderful words addressing his people: “Love your Ukraine, love it!”

Говорячи про Тараса Шевченка, я можу сказати, що він був вірним сином України. Любов Шевченка до Батьківщини була безмежною. Він так сильно постраждав через важке і нещасливе життя свого народу. Тарас Шевченко присвятив усе своє життя рідній Батьківщині. Ім'я Тараса Шевченка символізує щедру душу українців. Він називається поетом народу, бо він служив їм зі своїм поетичним словом. Скрізь, де Тарас Шевченко був, він ніколи не переставав думати про його народ, його батьківщину. Він написав такі чудові слова, звертаючись до свого народу: «Люби Україну, люби її!» І він завжди звертався до своєї України як  до живої істоти. Він плекав її. Тарас Шевченко любив Україну не тільки за допомогою написання віршів,  а й виражав свою пристрасну любов в його повсякденному житті, він любив її глибоко.

When I die, pray, bury me

In my beloved Ukraine,

My tomb upon a grave mound high

Amid the splendid plain.

So that the fields, the boundless steppes,

The Dnieper’s plunging shore

My eyes could see, my ears could hear

The mighty river roar.

When from Ukraine the Dnieper bears

Into the deep blue sea

The blood of foes…then will I leave

These hills and fertile fields –

I’ll leave them all and fly away

To the abode of God,

And then I’ll pray…

But till that day

I nothing know of God.

Oh bury me, then rise ye up

And break your heave chains,

And water with the tyrants’ blood

The freedom you have gained.

And in the great new family,

The family of free,

With a softy spoken, kindly words

Pray, men, remember  me.

 

 

 

P9 Vasyl’ Symonenko, our contemporary, is also known to be a loyal son of Ukraine. This great poet passionately loved it. His childhood was full of sufferings, he grew up having no father because he died when Vasyl’ was a little boy. But in spite of his hard childhood and poor life Vasyl’ never stopped loving his native land. He loved his Motherland so deeply as he loved his Mother. These lines prove his devotion to Ukraine: Можна все на світі вибирати, сину,

                   Вибрати не можна тільки Батьківщину.

 

Василь Симоненко, наш сучасник, також відомий як вірний син України. Цей великий поет пристрасно любив її. Його дитинство було сповнене страждань, він виріс не маючи батька, тому що він помер, коли Василь був маленьким хлопчиком. Але, не дивлячись на його жорстоке дитинство і бідне життя, Василь ніколи не переставав любити свою рідну землю. Ми захоплюємося чудовими віршами СИМОНЕНКA, і кожен з нас знаходять якісь особливі лінії для себе, відкриваючи велике і щедре серце СИМОНЕНКА, його любов до України. Він так глибоко любив свою Батьківщину, як  любив свою матір. Ці рядки доводять свою відданість Україні: Можна все на світі вибирати, сину,

                   Вибрати не можна тільки Батьківщину.

     P10 : I’d like to tell you a few words about Oleksandr Kolivoshko who gave his life for the sake of Ukraine. When the ATO began,  a young  Ukrainian boy from the village of  Harachkivka,  fought against the enemies who occupied his native соuntry. He loved his native land so dearly. He was only 22 when he perished. We can’t help remembering those who perished for the sake of our happy future. Oleksandr is a bright example of a real patriot of Ukraine.

 Я хотіла б сказати кілька слів про Олександра Kолівошко, який віддав своє життя заради України. Коли почалася ATO, молодий український хлопець з села Гарячківка, воював проти ворогів, які займали його рідну країну. Він так ніжно любив свою рідну землю. Йому було тільки 22, коли він загинув. Ми не можемо не згадати тих, хто загинув заради нашого щасливого майбутнього. Олександр є яскравим прикладом справжнього патріота України.                                                                                    На його честь встановлена меморіальна дошка, з якої він кожного дня зустрічає учнів нашої школи. Давайте пом’янемо його хвилиною мовчання.

     I want to sing when life is fun

     I want to fly into the blue

     I want to stretch out friendly hands

     to all the young of other lands

     I want to fight for what is right

     against the war, against the white

     against stark dark wild

     I want to love, I want to meet

     My friends, my family and me

     I want to laugh and not to cry

     I want to live and not to die.

 Я хочу жити, і не вмирати,

Я хочу сміятися, і не ридати.

Люблю я дивитись як літнее сонце

Нам світить в кімнату через віконце.

Коли мені весело я хочу співати,

Щоб настрій усім довкола підняти.

Я хочу птахом у небі літати

І рибою в морі глибоко пірнати.

Руку дружби простягну я

Всім юнакам що в горі.

І в боротьбі проти хвороб

І проти голоду усюди,

Мені поможуть мої друзі

Та інші добрі люди.

Усі люди на землі скажуть бомбі дружно "НІ".

Ми хочемо сміятись, хочемо жити,

З народами іншими будем дружити.

 

T: As every independent country in the world Ukraine has its own national symbols: a national anthem “Ukraine Hasn’t Died Yet…,a state flag and a national emblem - trident.

For many centuries the blue-and-yellow flag together with the trident and the anthem have symbolised the people’s aspirations for liberty and we hope it will be our symbol for good.

Т: Як будь-яка незалежна країна в світі, Україна має свої національні символи: національний гімн «Ще не вмерла Україна ...« , державний прапор і національний герб - тризуб.

Протягом багатьох століть синьо-жовтий прапор разом з тризубом і гімном символізували прагнення народу до свободи, і ми сподіваємося, що це буде наш символ добра.

 

P12 Ukrainian State Flag has two fesses; their colours are blue and yellow. From the earliest times Ukraine was considered as an agricultural country with fertile ground, so the blue color symbolizes clear sky and the yellow color symbolizes fields of wheat.

Український державний прапор має два кольори: синій і жовтий. З найдавніших часів Україна вважалася сільськогосподарською країною з родючою землею, так що синій колір символізує чисте небо, а жовтий колір -  поля пшениці.

The official Ukrainian coat of arms is Tryzub. It is a gold trident on an azure background. This national symbol dates back to Kievan Rus’ times, when the tryzub was the Rurik dynasty coat of arms.

This symbol was stamped on silver and gold coins which were issued by Prince Volodymyr the Great in X century.

There are about 40 different theories about Ukrainian Tryzub origin and meaning. Among the most popular:

• the symbol of the trident is a monogram for Ukrainian word «ВОЛЯ» with the meaning ‘freedom’;
• trident is a stylized falcon or hawk – a bird, that symbolizes freedom, courage and bravery;
• Trizub symbolizes the trinity of life (Father, Mother and Child) or the Christian Trinity.

Офіційним українським гербом є Тризуб. Це золотий тризуб на блакитному тлі. Цей національний символ сягає корінням часів Київської Русі, коли Тризуб був гербом династії Рюриковичів. Цей символ був вибитий на срібних і золотих монетах, які були випущені  князем Володимиром Великим у X столітті.

Є близько 40 різних теорій про українське  походження та значення Тризуба. Серед найбільш популярних:

• символ тризуба -  монограма для українського слова «ВОЛЯ» в значенні «свобода»;

• тризуб  у стилі сокола або яструба - птаха, який символізує свободу, мужність і хоробрість;

• тризуб символізує триєдність життя (батька, матері і дитини) або християнської Трійці.

National Anthem of Ukraine is the song ‘Shche ne vmerla Ukraina’ (‘Ukraine has not yet perished’). The poem ‘Shche ne vmerla Ukraina’ was written by Ukrainian poet Pavlo Chubynskyi in 1862. And by composer Mykhailo Verbytskyi, 1863. 

Національний гімн України є першою строфою і приспівом пісні «Ще не вмерла Україна» . Вірш «Ще не вмерла Україна» був написаний український етнографом і поетом Павлом Чубинським в 1862. Цей вірш привернув увагу Михайла Вербицького, священика, який написав музику до нього в 1863 році. Така ось історія гімну України.

T As you know, every country has its symbol of plant. Ukraine has two popular symbols. They are  a snowball tree and and a willow.  No wonder people say « there is no Ukraine without willow and viburnum».

Як ви  знаєте, кожна країна має свій рослинний символ. Україна має два популярні символи. Це калина та верба. Не дивно, що люди говорять: «Без верби і калини – нема України».

Willow is a symbol of beauty, the continuity of life. Since ancient  times  willow is considered a holy tree. Very difficult to imagine our land without willow. People  say, "Where is the water, there  is a willow."

Ukrainians have a lot of songs about  willow. willow T. Shevchenko has mentioned willow in many works.

 

Верба є символом краси, безперервності життя. З давніх часів верба вважається священним деревом. Дуже важко собі уявити нашу землю без верби. Люди кажуть: «Де вода, там верба.»

Українці мають багато пісень про вербу. Т. Шевченко згадував її у багатьох своїх роботах.

Snowball near the house — has long been the best and most noticeable thing of Ukrainian vil­lages. This plant with small hearts is a symbol not only of Ukraine but also the girls character. Many our famous writers wrote about a snowball-tree. T.Shevchenko loved it very much. The great Kobzar mentioned a snowball-tree 365 times in his works.                           

 

Калина біля будинку - вже давно найкраща і найчудовіша річ в українських селах. Приємно споглядати за кущами з білими квітами і спадаючими рубіновими ягодами. Калина символізує мужність людей. Ця рослина з дрібним серцем є символом не тільки України, але й дівочого характеру. З переказів людей калина наповнюється кров'ю, а серця дівчат виростають з  кущів калини. Багато наших відомих письменників писали про калину. Великий Кобзар згадує калину 365 раз в своїх роботах.

Ilona : As you know the word “Motherland” has two meanings. First it means your birthplace. And it also means your country. Tell me please, what does your Motherland begin with?

P 19 For me, my Motherland begins with my home, my parents, and my friends.

P 20 The beginning of my Homeland is my native village. It’s a very tiny part of Ukraine, but it’s the most beautiful land for me. I’m fond of its streets, houses, orchards. I love the sky above my village. I adore its people.

P22: To love Motherland means to love the beauty of its nature. I like nature of my native land. Especially, I am fond of animals, because they are our little brothers.

The heart of a home is a mother (Серце дому - мама)

Whose love is warm and true, (Чия любовь тепла и правдива,)

And home has always been "sweet home"  (И дом был всегда «дорогим домом»)

With a wonderful mother like you!  (С такой замечательной мамой как ты!)

Our talk-show сomes to the end. : I’d like to ask you to do the following: “Love your Motherland, love our Ukraine. Love it when it is in trouble, love it when it’s happy.” And I’d like to address you with a short poem:

 

Love your dear Motherland,
