(dialogue for the 6-th form)
Teacher: My dear students, today we are travelling around our Motherland Ukraine. We will revise everything we have learnt about Ukraine. Let's start my dear. Where is Ukraine situated?
Maria: Ukraine is situated in Eastern Europe. It covers the area of 604,000 square kilometers. Ukraine borders on Belarus, Poland, Moldova, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Russia. It is washed by the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov and has very important ports. The territory of Ukraine is mostly flat and mountains make up only 6% of its territory (there are the Carpathian mountains in the west and the Crimean mountains are moderate.)
Teacher: Good for you, Maria. There are many rivers in Ukraine. They are The Dnipro, The Bug, The Dniester, The Desna and others. The longest river of Ukraine is The Dnipro. What do you know about the capital of Ukraine?
Serhii: The capital of our country is Kyiv. It is a very beautiful city, especially in spring when the chestnut trees are in blossom. It’s an ancient city, it’s 1500 years old. Kyiv is a large political, industrial, scientific and cultural center. Its population is above 2 mln people. Kyiv is situated on the Dnieper.
Teacher: Thank you, Serhii. The main street of the capital is Khreshchatyk Street. Tourists are attracted by numerous places of historical interest in Kiev. They are Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, St. Sophia's Cathedral, St. Volodymyr's cathedral, the Golden Gate, and the monuments to T. G. Shevchenko, the great poet of Ukraine, to Bohdan Khmelnytsky and to Prince Vladimir. What do you know about national symbols?
Anna: The first symbol is the national flag. It has two stripes – blue and yellow. The colors are symbolic yellow for wheat in the fields and blue for the sky above them. The second is the national emblem of Ukraine is the Trident. It’s the most ancient of all the Ukrainian symbols. First it appeared on the coins of Volodymyr the Great. The third is the national Anthem. The music was composed by composer Mykhailo Verbytskyi and the text was written by Pavlo Chubynskyi.
Teacher: Thank you, my dear students. We have revised a lot and your home task is to make a presentation about Ukraine. Good bye, see you!
