Author: Once upon a time there were hares.

 Their names were Little and Grey Hares and a fox named Pretty Fox.

 They lived side by side in the forest. When winter came the hares began to build a house of wood and the fox built the house of ice.

 

Act I

Author: The hares are building a house. The fox is coming.

 

Fox. Hi, hares!

Hares. Hi, Fox!

Fox. What are you doing?

Hares. We are building a house of wood.

Fox. Ha, ha, ha. Your house is not beautiful. Look at my house of ice.

 

Author: Pretty Fox was happy all winter but when spring came, her house melted.

 

Act 2

Author: Hares are sitting in their house looking at the window. The Pretty Fox is knocking at the door.

 

Hares. Who is there?

Fox. It’s me, Fox. Let me in.

Hares. Oh, no. Our house is bad for you.

Fox. Oh, Hares, excuse me please. You are so kind. Let me in.

Act 3

Author: The fox is sitting by the window, hares are sweeping near the house.

They want to come into the house but the door is locked.

 

Hares. Open the door, Fox, let us in.

Fox. Oh, no. I am tired of you and I don’t want to live with you. Go away!

Hares. Let us in. We want to sleep.

Fox. I’ll jump out of here and I’ll thrash and tear you into clouts.

 

Act 4

Author: Little and Grey Hares are sitting near the house and crying. The wolf goes by.

 

Wolf. Hello, Hares, why are you crying?

Hare 1. Oh, wolf. We had a house of wood and Fox had a house of ice.

 Hare 2. When spring came her house melted.

Hare 1. She asked to live with us but sent us away.

 Hare 2. And we don’t know what to do.

Wolf. Don’t cry. I shall help you.

Hey, Fox! Get out of the Hares’ house.

Fox. I’ll jump out of here and I’ll thrash and tear you into clouts.

Wolf. I am sorry, Hares. She is so angry. I can’t help you.

 

 

 

 

Author: Little and Grey Hares is sitting and crying. The goat goes by.

 

Goat. Hello, Hares. Why are you cry­ing?

Hare 1. Oh, goat. We had a house of wood and Fox had a house of ice.

Goat. Don’t cry, I shall help you.
