London sightseeing tour. We welcome you to London. London is one of the largest cities in the world. About seven million people live here. London is more than two thousand years old.

Trafalgar Square. Trafalgar Square is the most famous of London squares. It is situated in the center of London not far from Westminster and Buckingham Palace. On the column in the centre there is a statue of Admiral Nelson who defeated the French at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. 

The Buckingham Palace. It is the London home of the Queen. When the flag is flying on the top she is at home. Look, they are changing the Guard. It happens every day at 11.30 a.m. 

The Houses of Parliament and Big Ben. The Houses of Parliament is the home of the British government. Members of Parliament are also called MPs. People choose them in elections every 4 to 5 years. Big Ben is the name of the bell inside the Clock Tower which forms part of the Houses of Parliament. 

Westminster Abbey. It is a royal church. Here you can see the tombs of many British kings and queens and other famous people and the beautiful Henry VII Chapel. 

The Tower of London. It was a fortress, a royal palace and later a prison. It is a museum now. There are a lot of interesting collections in the Tower of London. The ravens are another famous sight. The legend says that without them the Tower will fall. The Raven Master is the person who gives them food. 

St.Paul’s Cathedral. The architect Sir Christopher Wren started building St.Paul’s in 1675. It took him 35 years to finish it. St.Paul’s Cathedral has a 48 m high dome. You can walk around its base on the inside. This part is called the Whispering Gallery. 

The National Gallery. The National Gallery has a fine collection of European paintings. It was begun in 1824 when 38 pictures were bought by the Government. Now there are more than 2000 paintings in the collection. There are no pictures by living artists. 

Hide Park. In the park anyone can stand up and say what they want. It is a very democratic park. 

St James’s Park. It is one of the royal parks. Here you can see pelicans and ducks. There are a lot of parks and gardens in London. In Regent's Park there is the London Zoo. It is one of the biggest zoos in the world. 

The Gherkin The Gherkin is one of the most famous high-rise buildings in London. It was designed by the famous British architect Norman Foster. It was built in such a way as to save energy, so the heating and cooling costs are not too high. 

The Millennium Bridge The Millennium Bridge is a bridge over the River Thames. It has got the nickname – Wobbly Bridge. When it first opened in 2000, thousands of people who walked across felt a gentle movement underfoot. The bridge was closed, the problem fixed and it was reopened on 2 February 2002.
