LADY’S CLOTHES
In the morning I put on a dressing-gown over my night-gown. After washing I put on a set of underclothes and a house-dress, if I stay at home. If I’m going to cook I put an apron over my dress. But if I go to work I change into dress or a skirt and blouse, and a cardigan or a jersey in cold weather. When I go to the theatre or to a party I have an evening gown.
Every season brings in a new style, cut and color. I like to wear a front-buttoning blouse with a high collar and cuffs. I’ve got two of them in different colors as well as an over blouse with a yoke and breast pockets.

PRESSING
Pressing – прасування
Ironing-board – гладильна дошка
Right side – лицьова сторона
Wrong side – виворітна сторона
Silk – шовк
In the cold countries the first garments were the skins of animals. In modern costumes we see the tendency to wear simple comfortable clothes more fit for practical purposes.
Pressing is a basis part of sewing. It is not the same as ironing because when pressing pressure and steam do the work.
The process is principally one of lifting the iron and putting it on a damp cloth. Make certain that your ironing – board is smooth, soft and well-padded. Except for ordinary cottons and linens press everything on the wrong side. Woolens, silks and rayon’s will require a press cloth between the iron and material.
Rayon’s require very little heat and may be damaged by a hot iron. Silks may take a slightly higher temperature then cottons, woolens and linens require a hot it on. Always press lightly to avoid causing a shine. If a shine does appear, it can be usually removed by rubbing with a rough damp cloth.
When the garment it finished, give it a final pressing.
