(слайди 3-6)
This is a house on wheels is running a race,
Taking people from place to place. (A bus)
When it is driven it goes,
When it stops, it falls down. (A bike)
What is it? That has no wheels
And leaves no tracks on the water behind it? (A boat)
Though not a bird, not a butterfly,
I can fly high up in the sky. (A plane)
A balloon – a very large bag filled with hot air and with a basket below, used to travel through the air.
A helicopter – a kind of aircraft with long parts that turn round on the top.
A van – a kind of a lorry but a little bit smaller.
A yacht – a boat with sails, an expensive boat with an engine and rooms used on the sea.
A ferry – a boat that takes passengers across the river or narrower parts of the sea.
FROM THE HISTORY OF TRANSPORT.
This is a bus, this is a . . . ,
This is a ship, this is a plane.
I travel by bus, I travel by train,
I travel by ship, I travel by . . . .
In far-off days when roads were stony,
Man traveled round on a small . . . .
This was too slow and so, of course,
One day he learned to use a . . . .
And then man’s creative brains
Invented steam and so the . . . ,
Motor cars were next on view,
Electric trains and tube trains, . . . .
And then to everyone’s surprise
Airplanes went up to the . . . .
Such things were outdated soon,
When rockets went up to the . . . .
That brought the stars much nearer
And started a new and glorious . . . .
Keys: pony, horse, trains, moon, skies, train, plane , too, era.
Open your books, please. Page 96, ex. 1.
Look at the pictures and say how people can get from one place to another:
e.g. People can get from one place to another by plane.
Ex. 1 p. 96. Repeat after me.
Try to guess what way of travelling I am reading about.
1. It is the quickest way of traveling. It can take you from one town or city to another in no time. The seats are comfortable. That's a pity, but you can see very little from the windows. Things are too small to be seen. When the weather is rainy or foggy, you can't travel by it.(by plane)
2. This way of traveling is quick. You can stop at any place you like and go where you like. You need no tickets. Usually families travel by it.(by car)
3. This is the slowest way of traveling. Both young and old people like it. You needn't tickets. The only thing you need is a rucksack. You can visit many places in such a way.(on foot)
4. This way of traveling is quick. It is very pleasant to travel in this way. The seats are comfortable. You can see a lot of interesting things from the windows. You can make long journeys on land by it.(by train)
5. This way of traveling is not so fast. Some people enjoy traveling by it .But others don't like it at all. Usually people travel in this way in summer, when they are on holidays. You can see waves and sea-gulls. (by ship)
6. This way of traveling is cheaper than travelling by car or by plane. It can be a trip not far from your home or a long journey even to a foreign country. Touris groups usually use this way of travelling to visit foreign countries and different places of interest.
Now, children, let’s review the degrees of comparison of the adjectives.
1. What degrees do you know? (Positive, Comparative and Superlative)
2. How do we make the comparative degree? (-er/more +основа прикм.)
3. What about the superlative degree? (the -est/ the most +основа прикм.)
2) Grammar drilling
Ex.2 p.96
-Translate the words in the box.
-Make the degrees of comparison of these adjectives.
-Make up the sentences as in an example of the exercise.
Which of these means of transport is the fastest of all? (A plane)
Which of these means of transport is the slowest? (A bicycle)
Which of these means of transport is the most comfortable? (A train)
Which of these means of transport is the most expensive? (A plane)
Which of these means of transport is the cheapest? (A bicycle)
I think you are tired. So, I’d like to give you an opportunity to have a short rest. Listen to music and listen to me.
Sit comfortably. Close your eyes. Breath in. Breath out. Let’s imagine spring. You are sitting on the green grass near the river. The weather is fine. The light wind is blowing from the river. The birds are singing. You are quite. Your brain relaxes. There is calm in your body. Nothing diverts your attention. You are relaxing. Your troubles float away. You love your relatives, your school, your friends. They love you, too. Learn to appreciate every good thing. The Earth is full of wonders. You can do anything. You are sure of yourself, that you have much energy. You are in good spirits.
Open your eyes. Let’s continue.
