  • створити позитивну мотивацію до вивчення англійської мови;
  • повторити та закріпити вивчений матеріал;

Page 1. «We are part of the Nature”

Many people like to live in cities. They like big houses, busy streets and cars. But they also love nature. During their vacations they go to the woods, to the seaside or spend a good time in the country. They like to watch animals, birds in the forest or in the fields.

1. Come to the woods
On a sunny day,
Come to the woods
On a day in May

Look at the grass
At the busy bees,
Look at the birds
In the green, green trees.

2. A Meeting
A flower is looking through the ground,
Blinking at the April weather,
Now a child has seen the flower,
Now they go and play together.

Now it seems the flower will speak,
And will call the child its brother-
But, oh strange forgetfulness?
They don't recognize each other.

                                       By H. Munroe

Wild Kingdom

All woods are home to animals
So we behaved like guests
We only looked and never touched
The birds and rabbits nests.

Page 2. “Our nature is in danger”

People understand that our nature is in danger. Some organizations are founded in different countries to solve ecological problems. Do you know anything about it? What famous international organization do you know? Certainly, it's GREEN PEACE. It’s a world-known organization which does a lot to protect our nature.

“Every ten minutes, one kind of animal, plant or insect disappears. If nothing is done about it, over one million species will disappear in twenty years from now.

The seas are in danger. They are filled with poison: industrial and nuclear waste. The Mediterranean is already nearly dead, the North Sea is following. If nothing is done about it, one day nothing will be able to live in the seas.

The tropical rainforests, which are the home of half the Earth’s living things, are being destroyed. If nothing is done about it, they will disappear in twenty years.

Fortunately, there are people who are trying to do something about it.

In 1961, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) was founded – a small group of people who wanted to raise money to save animals and plants. Today, the World Wildlife Fund is a large international organization. It has raised over 35 million pounds for conservation projects, and has created or given support to National Parks in five continents. It has helped 30 mammals and birds to survive. Perhaps this is not much, but it is a start. If more people give money – and if more governments think of what is happening – perhaps the world Wildlife Fund will be able to help us to protect the natural world and all of us with it.”

Page3. “The most serious problems”

One of the most serious problems is air pollution. More and more factories cars and lorries add their bad breath to the air.  Of course, cars are the world's biggest air polluters. There are a great number of cars in our cities and towns. In cold winter days their engines work day and night. They add their bad breath to the air.

Another serious problem is water pollution.   There are a lot of lakes and rivers around in our country. People like to swim in hot summer days there. Some people are fond of fishing.  But many rivers are dirty now. On the banks of the lakes and rivers there is a lot of litter. People leave bottles, paper, food after their resting. Sometimes they throw them into the water and it's dangerous to swim there, because you may hurt your feet. That's why it's necessary to clean our lakes and our park and keep them clean.

One of the most serious problems is our countryside. There are great forests in our country. Twenty years ago they were rich in wild animals, mushrooms and berries. Has the countryside changed with the developing of oil-drilling industry? Yes, of course. Our countryside has changed greatly. Wild animals have disappeared in these places. We can not eat the fish from our rivers because it is not very good for our health. In the result of man's activities a lot of species have disappeared. You can see them only in the Red Book.

Page 4. “The World around Us is Wonderful. Protect it”

How can we help to protect the environment?

- We must keep the country tidy.

- We must grow flowers and trees.

- We must protect animals and birds.

- Wе should not throw trash in the streets or parks. A lot of trash can be recycled.

So we all must work together to keep our world green. The world around us is wonderful. Let's preserve it.

Hometask “The Turnip”

Introduction

- Every intellectual person should know these words of wisdom. Guy Julius Caesar once said them. Here are some historical facts:

Guy Julius Caesar was born in 102 BC and was a foremost politician, commander (war leader) and orator of Italy. During eight years he captured the lands of present-day France, Belgium and the western part of Germany. Romans got rich territories and the Gaels got great culture. Hundreds later the people borrowed main Roman vocabulary and the nobles of France were proud of being “the real Romans”. Caesar became the dictator. Some other politicians dreamed of the Roman Republic based on freedom principles and the power of the Senate. Some senators decided to punish the arrogant (in their opinions) ruler and stabbed him with their swords in 44BC. Among them was Caesar’s friend, Mark Brutus whom he told famous words: “And you, Brutus?”

“Veni, vidi, vici” is one of the most famous Caesar’s words. He used them in order to inform Rome about his fast victory. Every educated person should know so-called Caesar’s words of wisdom. If we translate Latin words into English it will sound like “Came, saw and won”.

- Certainly we are not Caesars, but everyone has its own Rubicon to cross. And today we’ll try to do it. Be enthusiastic, initiative and high-minded and you are sure to cross your Rubicon. Good luck!

Look at the blackboard: you’ll have nine steps.

Visit card

- The first step is the visit card of your team. Your task is

  • to name your team
  • to elect the captain
  • to choose the motto

You’ve got time limit – 5 minutes. Then give us your presentation.

Warming up “Quiz”

- You’ve been studying English for ages. You know a lot of facts about English, English-speaking countries, their customs and traditions. To check up your knowledge I’ll ask you questions and you should answer them as soon as possible. One correct answer is a point. Get set, go!

Questions:

  1. Who discovered America?
  2. Who was the first president of the USA?
  3. What is the national symbol of the USA?
  4. Who discovered Australia?
  5. What is the symbol of England?
  6. What is the capital of the USA?
  7. Where is the Statue of Liberty?
  8. How many stripes does the American flag have?
  9. What is Union Jack?
  10. Who was the first man on the Moon?
  11. What parts does the UK consist of?
  12. When is Halloween celebrated?
  13. Can you give the full name of the UK?

Associations

- And now the captains are invited. The task is “You’ll have a card with a word on it and you should write your five associations with that notion”. While the captain writes his own associations, the members of his teams try to guess the captain’s associations and speak them aloud. You’ve got a point if your captain’s association coincides with yours. You can get five points for all five guessed associations.

For example, pupils’ associations with the word “Sun”:

1) yellow;
2) round;
3) hot;
4) summer;
5) sky.

Understand me

- It’s a famous kind of competition. All the members of your team can try their speaking abilities. You’ll have a card with a word on it; you should explain the meaning of the word and not mention it. The other members should recognize the notion (for example, a forget-me-not, a sunflower, a guitar, a violin).

Speaker: “It’s a kind of flowers. It’s blue. Some young people present them in order to remember him or her. It’s grown in the fields, in wet places”.

English words in Ukrainian language

- We live in Ukraine. Ukrainian is our native language, but more and more English words are being borrowed from the English language into other languages. Your task is to write as many Ukrainian words which were borrowed from English as you can. Time limit is five minutes (football, computer, golf…)

Proverbs and idioms

Proverbs are wisdom of the whole nation. Wherever you live, whatever language you speak, most of the proverbs have similar meanings. For example, my home is my castle (мій дім – моя фортеця), East or West, home is best (в гостях добре, а вдома краще). The same is about the idioms (to kill two hares with one stone – вбити двох зайців). Your task is to find Ukrainian equivalents to the proverbs on your cards. Each team has five proverbs or idioms:

  • He laughs best, who laughs last / Сміється той, хто сміється останній
  • Better late than never / Краще пізно, ніж ніколи
  • Tastes differ /
  • The eye is the mirror of the soul /
  • It is never too late to learn /
  • A man is known by the company he keeps /
  • Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today /
  •  All in good time/Всякому овочу свій час
  • Look before you leap/

Do you know that…?

The next step is called “Do you know that…?” You know that during English classes we study not only English, but a wide range of different things: we speak both about changeable climate in Great Britain and the Mediterranean climate of Australia. We learn how to be polite, how to protect the environment and how to respect grown-ups. Please try to answer the questions on your cards. Each team has the same card. One correct answer is a point.

Card

  1. What animals are cold-blooded? (reptiles and amphibians)
  2. What animal lives the longest life and how many years does it live? (a tortoise, 400 years)
  3. What animal has more vertebral in his neck: a squirrel or a giraffe? (a squirrel)
  4. What planet is the nearest to the Sun? (Mercury)
  5. Does a kangaroo or a horse run faster? (a kangaroo)
  6. What is the London home of the Queen? (Buckingham palace)
  7. What mountain is the highest in the world? What is its height? (Everest, 8848 m)
  8. What animal is the largest in the world? (a blue whale)

Poetry corner “Limericks”

- Limericks are small funny poems. Try to translate them as good as possible using rhythms:

There was an old man of West,
Who wore a pale plum-coloured vest;
When they said, “Does it fit?”
He replied, “Not a bit!”
That uneasy Old Man of the West.

There was an Old Man of Columbia,
Who was thirsty, and called out for some beer;
But they brought it quite hot,
In a small copper pot,
Which disgusted that man of Columbia

Conclusion

-Thanks everybody for being so artistic, erudite and for good knowledge of the English language.

Good afternoon! Welcome to our holiday which is dedicated to World Earth’s Day that people all over the world celebrate today, on the 22nd of April.

What is going on here?! Every living thing is perishing!

Now listen to a little history about this holiday…

In spring 1979 the oil was spilled into the Pacific ocean at the seashore of the USA not far from Santa-Barbara (it is not far from Los-Angeles).

Hundreds of inhabitants of this city went out to the seashore to gather the oil in order to save every living thing of destruction.

And then they decided that it was necessary to dedicate one holiday to the Earth at least. In that way since 1979 Americans began to celebrate Earth’s Day on the 22nd of April every year.

In 1994 Earth’s Day became the world holiday.

Save the Tiger

SAVE THE TIGER

Save the tiger.

Save the whale and the panda.

Save the tiger.

Save the whale and the gorilla.

Save the elephant in Africa

The eagle in America.

Save the wildlife of the world.

Save the tiger.

Our Earth… What do we know about it? Listen to a short story and you’ll answer the question.

P1.: It is known that the age of our planet is 4,6 milliard years. Scientists say that life on the Earth began about 4 milliard years ago.

P2.: Now try to imagine that those 4 milliard years would be shortened to one year. So one day of that year would be corresponded to 11 million years.

And now try to answer the question: ’When did life begin on our planet?’

P3.: It is interesting that the first inhabitants of the Earth were bacteriums which arose on the 1st of January. The greater part of that year there were no living beings on Earth except them.

The first typical to future plants and animals cells arose on the 1st of September.

P4.: After that evolution began to proceed more quickly. The first invertebrate animals arose in September and October. The first fishes arose in November. Then the first amphibian arose.

P5.:Dinosaurs arose in December. They existed on Earth until the middle of December. At the end of December the first birds and mammals arose.

P6.: At last the first man arose on the 31st of December at 4 o’clock in the evening or 3 million years ago!

P7.; The scientific and technological revolution took place in 18th century and lasts only 2 seconds. But people had already had time to reduce the nature of our planet to ecological disaster for the last 2 seconds!

P8.: As the result of economic activities of man both the air, the water and the soil are polluted. The pollution of the environment is the most serious problem today and if we want to survive and live any longer, we must solve it until its too late.

Some people like living in cities and town, but another prefer countryside. Let’s listen to the poem

HE LOVES THE OCEAN

He loves the ocean.
He loves the sky.

She loves to travel.
She loves to fly.

He likes the country.
He loves the clouds.

She likes the city.
She loves the crowds.

She loves the telephone.
She loves to talk.

He loves the mountains.
He loves to walk.

She loves to travel.
She loves to fly.

He loves the ocean.
He loves the sky.

Next poem is about a man who likes nature. But it’s a pity that there ara peope who can not notice a beauty of nature.

I MEANT TO DO MY WORK TODAY

I meant to do my work today –
But a brown bird sang in the apple tree,
And a butterfly flitted across the field,
And all the leaves were calling me,
And the wind went sighing over the land
Tossing the grasses to and fro,
And a rainbow held out its shining hand –
So what could I do but laugh and go?

We must love each other. We must take care about our Earth to save it for future generation.
