Get on like house on fire. Meaning: If two people get on like a house on fire, they like each other very much and become friends very quickly☺Madam your wife and I didn't get on like a house on fire the only time I ever saw her. Burn the candle at both ends. Meaning: to work or do other things from early in the morning until late at night and so get very little rest. No wonder Mary is ill. She has been burning the candle at both ends for a long time.

Dish the dirt. Meaning: to tell people unpleasant or shocking personal information about someone (often + on). Shauna agreed to dish the dirt on her millionaire ex-love for a fee of £5,000.

Don’t count chickens before they hatch. Meaning: Don't make plans based on future events that might not happen. Why are you begging to drive my car to school tomorrow when you still need to take your license test in the morning? Don't count your chickens before they're hatched, babe!

Get cold feet. Meaning: to suddenly become too frightened to do something you had planned to do, especially something important like getting married.☺We're getting mar-ried next Saturday - that's if Tom doesn't get cold feet!☺I'm worried she may be getting cold feet about our trip to Patagonia.

Knock on wood. Meaning: to rap on something made of wood. (Said as a wish for good luck. Usually a phrase attached to another statement. Sometime said while knocking or rapping on real wood.) I think I am well at last – knock on wood. I knock on wood when I wish something were true.

Let the cat out of the bag. Meaning: to reveal a secret or a surprise by accident. When Bill glanced at the door, he let the cat out of the bag. We knew then that he was expecting som-eone to arrive.

Lick someone’s boots. Meaning: act with extreme servility. This man wanted every employee to lick his boots, so he had a hard time keeping his staff .

Meaning:  to be silly or eccentric; to be crazy; to be a sillybilly. Have a screw loose. He's sort of strange. I think he's got aloose screw. Yes, he has a screw loose somewhere. He wears a heavy jacket in the middle of summer.

Lie through one’s teeth. Meaning: to say things that are not true in a way that seems sincere.
