Opening an English Week. How to start an English week effectively.

OPENING  AN  ENGLISH  WEEK

• Attention, attention!

• At last we have an English week at lyceum!

Нарешті в ліцеї – тиждень англійської мови!

• It`s a good opportunity to practice the English language.

Це чудова можливість для практики англійської

• Because there are 350 million English native-speakers.

Адже у світі близько 350 мільйонів людей є носіями англійської мови.

• English is the official language in over forty countries.

Англійська – офіційна мова в понад 40 країнах.

• English is the second language for 300 million people.

300 мільйонів, для котрих англійська – друга державна мова.

• About billion people learn English as a foreign language.

І близько мільярда людей вивчають англійську мову як іноземну.

•  50%  of contracts are written in English.

      50% всіх угод у світі укладаються англійською мовою.

• Doing business nowadays also means the ability of speaking foreign languages.

        Робити бізнес сьогодні також означає здатність говорити   іноземними мовами.

• This language is spoken by scientists, pilots, computer programists, statesmen and tourists.

Саме цією мовою говорять вчені, льотчики, комп’ютерні експерти, дипломати та туристи.

• English is absolutely necessary for people nowadays, because of our growing international contacts with European countries.

Англійська мова є абсолютно необхідною для людей в даний час, через наші зростаючі міжнародні зв'язки з європейськими країнами.

• There is a saying: the more languages you speak, the more times you are a human being. That’s why in order to understand ourselves and the world around us we have to study foreign languages and English in particular.

 Існує приказка: чим більше мов ви знаєте, тим більше разів ви є людиною. Ось чому для того, щоб зрозуміти себе і світ навколо нас, ми повинні вивчати іноземні мови і англійську мову, зокрема.

To know English today is absolutely necessary for every educated person. English is everywhere in our life. So, it’s very important  to speak at least one foreign language. Believe me Studying English enriches you”.

During the week we are going to different activities. On the information board you can see the plan of the week. So read attentively and take part in different activities.

So,  today let’s make together the wall of self-expression “I am …”. During the breaks come to this wall and write an interesting fact or a trait about yourselves.

Also the pupils of the 8^th form will have a competition “Spelling bee”.

On Tueasday we ‘ll have competitions of posters dedicated to the English language and W. Shakespeare.

On Wednesday on a big poster you will be able to see the sentence “I’m learning English because ….”. Finish it, think about interesting endings and you’ll get an interesting prize for creative answer. (Let it be intrigue). During this day you will have a competition “The best English environment”.  You have to sign or to mark different things in your class with English words as many as you can.

On Thursday pupils of the  9^th form will write a composition on the topic «English Language in my life». We are going to define the winner of this competition. 

On Friday we are going to have  an  English Learners’ Party. Four teams (10^th and 11^th forms)  are going to compete.  Also you will hear the Results of the English week .

In conclusion I would like to read Nelson Mandela’s words:

 «If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his own language, that goes to his heart» Якщо ви розмовляєте з людиною на мові, яку вона розуміє, то сказане потрапить до голови. Якщо  ж на її рідній мові, то сказане потрапить до серця.
