Teacher: Good afternoon, dear boys and girls, dear  guests! I’m glad to see you very much. Today we have an unusual meeting. Love is in the air! Here it comes again: the day for exchanging love messages, chocolates, roses and promises. Today we’ll sing songs and recite poems. Also you will know interesting information. Do you know what date it is today?

The 1st pupil: Today is the 14th of February.

Teacher: Right. And what holiday do most people celebrate in many countries today?

The 2nd pupil: We celebrate St. Valentine’s Day today.

Teacher: Yes, today is one of the most beautiful and famous holidays. It’s a day when boys and girls, women and men, husbands and wives say good and lovely words to each other, make a declaration of love and give presents to each other. So, it’s a day for sweethearts, for those people who love and are loved. The pupils of our form have prepared the information about today’s holiday. At the and of our meeting  you will do the test according to this information.

  1. Основна частина заходу.

  1.  Повідомлення учнів. Історія свята.

The 1st pupil: Valentine’s Day is a religious holiday. But do you know why holiday is called St. Valentine’s Day? As far as I know this holiday has roots in several legends. Many legends say that Valentine was a Christian priest. He lived three hundred years after the death of Jesus Christ in the Roman Empire. On the fourteenth of February Valentine was killed because he was a Christian and he married couples contrary to the laws of the Roman Empire. Other legend says that he cured a prisoner’s daughter from blindness and just before his death, on February 14, he sent her a farewell message signed “From your Valentine”. One of the early symbols of love is Cupid, the Roman God of Love, who is represented as a young boy with a bow and arrows. As you know this day most people exchange greetings of affection and undying love. Most people send “valentines”, sentimental and heartfelt greeting cards where they write nice small poems. Valentine cards that we know today first appeared in the 18th century. Sweethearts used to spend hours making their own valentines. Lace, satin, ribbon, coloured paper, wild flowers, moss, feather and shells, all were used to make them look more “attractive”. The results of some of those painstaking efforts can still be found in museums.

The 2nd pupil: February 14th is the day to send little gifts to those you love. Flowers and sweets are favourite presents. As the day approaches, shops are filled with red, heart-shaped boxes of chocolates; the florists sell thousands of red roses – a symbol of love.

In the last century, however, the presents bought and given on this day were more numerous, and often more valuable, than those given at Christmas. Anonymous gifts of all kinds were laid upon the doorsteps of houses. The giver, or his messenger, tried to get out of sight before the door could be opened. A great part of the fun was to identify the unknown giver.

  1.            Активізація лексики теми.

Teacher: You have heard the history of this holiday. Now look at the board and guess the words we associate with the St. Valentine*s Day.

( love, party, rose, chocolate, heart, candy,  sweethearts, Cupid)

  3. A boy who shoots arrows(Cupid)

  6. The presents you give to your sweetheart(chocolate, candy)

Teacher: Lets check up your answers.

  1.        Розвиток монологічного мовлення учнів. Декларування віршів.

Teacher: And now let’s recite poems which you’ve prepared at home.

Let me call you sweetheart

I’m in love with you.

Let me hear your whisper

That you love me, too.

Keep the love light glowing

In your eyes so true.

Let me call you sweetheart.

I’m in love with you.

I’ll be your sweetheart,

If you will be mine,

All of my life

I’ll be your Valentine.

My heart to you is given:

Oh, do give yours to me;

We’ll lock them up together,

And throw away the key…

There’s a special place within my heart

That only you can fill.

For you had my love right from the start

And I know you always will.

I’m sending you a Valentine’s Wish

Filled with Hugs and Kisses too.

Because there is a special place

Within my heart for you.

My love is like a cabbage,

Divided into two.

The leaves I give to others,

But the heart I give to you.

My thoughts of you

On Valentine’s Day

Are as warm as they can be,

Because you’re someone special

Who means so much to me.

I wrote your name in the sky,

but the wind blew it away.

I wrote your name in the sand,

but the waves washed it away.

I wrote your name in my heart,…

and forever it will stay!

If you will be my Valentine,

My charming little dear,

The sun can never help but shine

Throughout the coming year.

  1.        Розвиток аудитивних навичок учнів.

Teacher: Thank you boys and girls! As you know, there are a lot of beautiful songs about love. One of the most popular songs is “I Just Called“ by Stevie Wonder. You have texts of this song on your tables, complete the text while listening.

I Just Called

No New Year's Day to …,

No chocolate … or candy … to give away,

No … of spring, no … to sing,

In fact it's just another ordinary day.

No April rain, no … bloom,

No wedding Saturday within the month of June,

But what it is, is something true

Made up of these three … that I must say to you

I just called to say, I … you

I just called to say, how much I …,

I just called to say, I … you

And I mean it from the bottom of my …

No Summer's time, no … July,

No harvest moon to light one … August night,

No autumn breeze, no falling leaves,

Not even time for … to fly to southern skies,

No Libra sun, no Halloween,

No giving things toward the Christmas … you bring.

But what it is, though, oh, so new,

To fill your … like no three … that I ever knew.

I Just Called

No New Year's Day to celebrate,

No chocolate girls or candy hearts to give away,

No birds of spring, no song to sing,

In fact it's just another ordinary day.

No April rain, no flowers bloom,

No wedding Saturday within the month of June,

But what it is, is something true

Made up of these three words that I must say to you

I just called to say I love you

I just called to say how much I care,

I just called to say I love you

And I mean it from the bottom of my heart

No Summer's time, no warm July,

No harvest moon to light one tender August night,

No autumn breeze, no falling leaves,

Not even time for birds to fly to southern skies,

No Libra sun, no Halloween,

No giving things toward the Christmas joy you bring.

But what it is, though, oh, so new,

To fill your heart like no three words that I ever knew.
