The Procedure of the Lesson

1. Preliminaries

Good morning, students! I’m glad to see you.  How are you? Let’s call the register. Get ready everything for the lesson. Today we will talk about the prepositions of time.

2. Warm-up

Let’s revise the usage of the Present Simple Tense. Your task is to use the Present Simple.

3. Homework checking

For today you had to translate some sentences from Ukrainian into English. Let’s check them.

1. My sister gets up at 7 a.m.
2. For breakfast he eats fried eggs and drinks coffee.
3. I need half an hour to brush my teeth, to take shower and to comb my hair.
4. She always speaks with her friend during the breaks.
5. Classes at University begin at half past seven and end at about 2 p.m.
6. Where do you prepare for your seminars and tutorials?
7. She doesn’t take a bath in the morning, because she doesn’t have a lot of time.
8. I have lunch in a canteen.
9. I do shopping on my way back to home.
10. He doesn’t stay at home on his weekends, he goes to the cinema with his friends.
11. A lot of students do their written assignments in a reading hall.
12. How much time do you need to get to the University?
13. Tania leaves her house at 7:30, she walks to the bus stop and takes a bus.
14. For lunch I eat some soup, a sandwich and drink a cup of tea.

4. New Material Presentation

Today we will learn about prepositions of time (прийменники часу). I will write them on the board.

Prepositions of time - here's a list of the time words that need 'on', 'in', 'at' and some that don't need any preposition. Be careful - many students of English use 'on' with months (it should be 'in'), or put a preposition before 'next' when we don't need one. Open your copybooks and write down:

Remember that these prepositions are often used with the definite article “THE”!

5. Consolidation

6. Relaxation Period

I see that you are tired. Let’s relax a little bit. There are written some words on the sheets of paper. Your task is to show the word and tell where we can find such an animal for your groupmates to guess its name.

7. Setting the Home Task

Write down the home task. For the next time, you have to learn where to use the prepositions of time, because you will write a dictation based on it.

8. Evaluation

Danylo, I shall give you 9 points as you mispronounced some words while reading the sentences. Very good, but be more attentive during the class as you still make some grammar mistakes.
