1st day: Chemical challenge

Хід роботи:
Pupils get a secret letter. It is a clean shit of paper and a candle. They should guess that there was used invisible ink and they need to heat it to read the letter.
A secret letter says: Alternative
After this they can write a secret letter to each other.
You will need: Lemon Juice, paintbrushes, art paper, iodine solution
What to do: Paint a picture or write a secret message on the art paper with lemon juice. Once dry, typically an hour, brush over your painting using the Iodine solution to reveal the picture or message in white with a blue background.
How does it work?
Paper has starch in it, which reacts with iodine to form a blue complex. The vitamin C in lemon juice blocks this reaction, so areas of the paper coated in lemon juice remain white. Scientists use iodine as an indicator to tell whether or not vitamin C is present. You can also use your iodine vitamin C indicator to find out if other juices contain vitamin C.
Pupils need to get the egg out of the jar and not to wet their hands. On this egg there is the next note.

You will need: Salt, tablespoon, jar, warm water, 1 raw eggs
The egg in the normal water will sink to the bottom while the egg in the salt water will float to the top. The egg will rise higher and higher as each spoonful is removed. The egg floats in salt water because of density. Salt water is denser than the egg thereby causing the egg to rise to the top.
Pupils get two glasses of dark tea. On the bottom of one glass there is the 3rd note. They need to read it but not to drink tea or not to pour out.
The note says: energy
Pupils get lemon juice and liquid dish detergent.
What to do:
Add a few drops of lemon juice to the glass of tea. Watch to see what happens to the color of the tea. Add several drops of the liquid dish detergent into the glass. what happens to the color of the tea. Now compare the glass of tea with lemon juice and the glass of tea with liquid dish detergent to the glass of tea in the middle. What do you see?
The tea with lemon juice becomes light and pupils can read the note.
