Theme: “Health Service ”

(Speaking)

Objectives:

  •          to develop pupils’ skills in speaking
  •          to provide interactive work in pairs and small groups
  •          to broaden pupils’ knowledge and outlook
  •          to teach pupils cooperative work
  •          to teach how to behave when you have problems with health
  •          to develop pupils’ memory, attention, thinking

 

Equipment: handouts “Work in pairs”, written situations, pictures

Procedure

  1. Informing aims of the lesson

- Dear pupils, today we continue to discuss theme : “Health Service ”.

I prepared for you some exercises which help you use the topical words in your conversation with a doctor, to explain to the doctor what is wrong with you, how to buy medicines.

2. Speaking

2.1 Exercise 1 “Work in pairs”

-- Look at the pictures. Express your opinion.

                       

  •       what made the boy and the girl consult a doctor;
  •       whether the doctor examined the patient carefully;
  •       whether the doctor gave any practical advice;
  •       what the doctor prescribed to the patient;
  •       what the patient should do to avoid serious complications;
  •       how the doctor helped;

2.2 Exercise 2 Oral practice “At the Chemist’s”

-- Work in groups of 3 or 4. Make up dialogues “At the Chemist’s”

Situation:

You are at the chemist’s, you need medicine, try to buy it.(After a role-play you have to say what have you bought and chemist has to say what problem did you have).

2.3  Exercise 3  Making up the dialogue

-- Put the conversation in the correct order

__Patient: Yesterday. I fell over while I was playing football.

__Patient: Should I go today?

__Doctor: Goodbye.

__Doctor: Hmm. I think you've only sprained it. But you'll

need an X-ray. I'll put a bandage on it for now. But you should go to hospital for an X-ray.

__Patient: Yes, but it hurts.

__Patient: I've hurt my ankle.

__Patient: Thank you, Doctor. Goodbye.

__ Doctor: Can you just take your shoe off? Hmm, yes. Can you

move your foot? 

__Doctor: Yes. Take this letter with you.

__Doctor: When did it happen?

2.4  Exercise 4  Discussing

-- How do you think, pupils, is it good to ill, to feel bad every month or every two weeks?

Work in pairs – discuss a healthy way of life. What should you do to be healthy?

Answers: wash hands, eat fruit and vegetables, do morning exercises, consult the dentist, avoid bad habits (smoking), be positive thinking person

 

  1. Conclusion
  •     Let’s look at our aims. What can you do now?
  •          What should you do to be healthy?
