Teacher.  Let’s revise some words on the topic «Food» and practise pronouncing them correctly. (slide 2)

Now let’s learn a new proverb “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”. This proverb says if you eat only one apple every day you needn’t a doctor. We know that fruit is very useful for us. Remember this proverb and keep it. (slide 25)

Teacher. What does the word «food» mean to you? Is it a pleasure or just a fuel? Everybody has his personal opinion about it.  Tell me what you eat, and I will tell you what you are.

Read the newspaper article about unhealthy food. Some parts of text are missed. Choose from the list (A-Y) the most appropriate part for each gap (1-5) in the text. There are three extra parts that you don’t need to use.

One of the most important tasks is the task of bringing up a healthy generation. The problem is that children are (1). If children weigh too much they are less productive and have problems with their health.

Junk food makes people overweight. Chips, sweets chocolate, sweets and sugary snacks are called (2). Junk food isn’t healthy for people. Most junk food contains (3).

But teenagers and children like eating  junk food. So they can become overweight or (4).

In order to help our children to become healthier we have to talk to them (5) and to persuade them to exercise more and not to eat so much junk food.

Exercise helps keep our weight down. The following chart shows how many calories we use when doing different forms of exercise for one hour.

T: As you see, you like not only healthy food but unhealthy one either. You know that fast food is very unhealthy. People become fat. They have many problems with their health: headache, toothache, stomachache.

Teacher. Good advices for good life.

Good Food for Good Life 
We need good food for good life. Good food has a lot of vitamins, proteins (белки) and minerals. They are in vegetables, fruits, bread, milk, meat, fish and porridge. These things help to make your bones and teeth strong. They make your body strong and healthy. It’s important to eat enough – not too much and not too little. Too much food makes you fat. Too little food makes you weak. 

Are these statements true (T) or false (F)?

1. We need bad food for good life.
2. We need little vitamins.
3. It’s important to eat much.
4. Minerals make your bones and teeth strong.
5. Vitamins, proteins, minerals make you healthy.
6. All foods are good for you.

7. Fruit and vegetables are full of sugar and fat.

8. You should eat a variety of foods to stay healthy and grow big and strong.

One of the best ways to be healthy and keep our energy is to eat small snacks frequently. We should also drink at least five glasses of water every day. Vitamin C is very important for us too. So we have to eat fresh fruit, vegetables and berries because they are rich in vitamin C.

When you have a headache cherries will help you. If you want to avoid getting colds and  flu, lemons, oranges, carrots, broccoli will help you because they are rich in vitamin C.

If you suffer of indigestion, eat raw cabbage and broccoli.

If you eat fish, brown rice you will not suffer from tiredness or lack of energy.

We can improve our health but we should eat the right kinds of foods.

Teacher.  Game «healthy or unhealthy». Take the words from my magic box and classify them as healthy or unhealthy. Work in groups.

Bread, chocolate, cake, crisps, fried eggs, fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, meat, milk, french fries, potatoes, sweets, cheeseburger, hot dog, salad, pizza, soup, bun, fish burger, rice.

Teacher. Do you have cookery book?

Work in groups.

Make up and read the recipe.  Guess what recipe it is.

  1. Take 3or 4 potatoes.2) Mash them. 3) Then peel them carefully. 4) If the potatoes  are very big, cut them into smaller pieces.  5) Then put them into cold  water, add some salt and boil till they are ready.6) Get the water out and add some  milk  and  butter.7)Wait till the milk starts boiling, mash everything carefully.


  1. Peel and cut beetroots, carrots and onions. 2) And fry them in 2 spoonfuls of vegetable oil in the frying pan. 3) Add sliced tomatoes and them into the saucepan. 4) Then in 15 minutes add chopped cabbage, salt and sugar to your taste, stir. 5)  Boil until this dish is quite ready. 6) Finally, season with parsley and dill and serve with sour cream. 7) Enjoy your meal!

Greek salad

1. You should take two tomatoes, three cucumbers, a tin of olives and some cheese.

2. First, cut  the tomatoes and cucumbers into pieces.

3.Second, open the tin of olives.

4. Put all the vegetables and olives in a large bowl.

5. Cut the cheese into large cubes and put it into the bowl, too.

6. Last, add some salt, pepper, vinegar and olive oil.

7. Enjoy your meal!

Name the ingredients of a Greek salad.

Practice in Listening

Teacher.   Your task is to guess what my favourite dishes are.

“Oil the pan. Put the flour and salt into a bowl. Add some butter, milk and mix. Put the dough into the oiled pan. Add sliced tomatoes, cheese and ham. Bake for about 15 minutes in a microwave oven. Enjoy your …”(Pizza)

Best of all I like healthy food. Firstly I take some vegetables, wash them and cut. Then we have to put some salt and pepper. After that I add a little oil and mix. It’s a very tasty dish. What is it? (Salad)

My taste is alike to yours. We can buy this food easily in the shop. But you can cook it yourself. We have to wash and peel potatoes. Then we slice them and fry every piece into the pan with a lot of oil. Take out red- yellow snacks and air. What is it? (Chips)

Everyone has eaten my dish. Your and my mum prepare it. She takes meat, boils it. After that she puts peeling vegetables. Mum adds some salt, pepper. At the end she puts some sour- cream. It is delicious red- coloured dish. What is it? (Borsch)

It is Ukrainian dish. I help my mum to do it. Firstly we boil leaves of cabbage and rice. We have to grind carrot and cut some onion. Frying we mix them with rice and meat. Put salt, pepper. Then we put this mass into the cabbage leaf and boil 1 hour with tomato pasta. We eat this dish with sour- cream. What is it? (Holubtsi)

Teacher.There is a good proverb that I like very much: “We eat to live, but do not live to eat.” I think this is true because food is something that we need to stay alive. Food is a source of energy. So, for some people food is a source of pleasure, too. But the food that we eat should also be healthy. (slide 30-31)

                                                                                                                                                               III.Summing-up. It’s a pity but our time is over. You have worked hard. I think, you have understood the importance of the right food for the health of people. And I want to remember a proverb.

Remember! Good health is above wealth. Clap your hands if you liked our lesson and understood everything. Scratch your head if you didn’t understand some things.
