I wish you good luck too. So, today we’ll speak on the topic “Popular sports and games. Famous sportsmen”. You’ll revise and enrich your vocabulary, develop your  listening, reading, writing and speaking skills and speak about the famous Ukrainian sportsmen.

II Warm-up

1) Warming up (Slide)

Look at the screen we have some letters. Your task is to make up words from the letters.

III Vocabulary

Listening. Listen to the descriptions of the sports and name them.

1). This game is played by two teams. There are six players in each team. They play game on an ice field. (hockey)

2). It is a team game. Two teams hit a large ball with their hands over a high net. The ball is not allowed to bounce on the ground. (volleyball)

3). It is a game of two players. Each player starts with 16 different playing pieces. They move the playing pieces on a board. The aim of the game is taking your opponent’s king. (chess)

I know you have prepared little projects about your favourite sportsmen for today’s lesson. But first of all I want to tell you some information about our Ukrainian famous sportmen, maybe somebody knows one of them? Can you call me their names?

RELAXATION. MIME GAME

T: You are a bit tired. I would like you to relax.  Lets play a mime game. So, I need one pupil. Take a card, look it through, think and to show the kind of the sport. And the others have to guess the word.

2) Group work

Now we’ll have a group work. Please, make two groups. I’ll give you cards with phrases. Your task will be to make dialogues with them. Then you’ll act this dialogue.

Volodymyr is my favourite sportsman. He is a boxer. Volodymyr was born on March 25, 1976. He is 33. He was a good pupil and a good student. He graduated from the Perejaslav – Khmelnytskyj Pedagogical institute. Volodymyr began to go in for sport when he was 14. He went to a sport school with his elder brother Vitalij. Vitalij Klychko is a famous Ukrainian boxer, too. Volodymyr is an Honoured Master of Sports of Ukraine. He is a champion of Olympic Games in Atlanta. He is a box champion of the world and Europe. His hobby is playing the saxophone. He is very strong and clever. He is my favourite sportsman and I want to look like Volodymyr.
