Procedure
I. Introductory part a) Т: Good morning, dear pupils! We have finished the topic « Everyday School Life». We have had a great time while speaking about your extra - school activities , your hobbies. So, I do hope, you’ll love our new topic much more, because we are going to discuss a fascinating part of our life - Doing Sports. A good beginning makes a good ending, so what about starting our lesson with a new poem?
b) Reading a poem( written on the blackboard) :
I enjoy computer playing, Are you crazy about computer,
They are fond of diving. Making friends’ e-mailing?
Terry’s keen on surfing , All the kids enjoy them
Lilly is good at diving It goes without saying.
c) Word- Searching : say, what our hobbies and what our sports are. d) Reproducing the poem : T deletes some words and STDs recite the poem.
II.Main part
1. Vocabulary Presentation p. 44.T: a) We can’t be successful in learning a new topic without new vocabulary. I think we are lucky to study this part of vocabulary, because a great deal of international words abound in it. Find the words the meaning of which you already know. b) “Event’’ you have already learnt this word, but now it has its another meaning – something that is arranged as a part of a sport program : The next event will be 100 metres running. “ Sailing” is a sport of directing a small boat with a sail ( a piece of cloth that is fixed on a ship to help move a boat by the force of the wind).’’Race” – to move at full speed, to run, swim very fast to win a victory. The synonyms to it are contest, competition. “Fencing” the sport of fighting with a very sharp sword. Do you need my help in guessing the meaning of the word “horse- riding”? c) Find a rhyming word to this Russian- English verse: Залезай скорее, Кай! Залезать, карабкаться по-английски…
d) By the way be very attentive while using the word “Sport”, because some English learners tend to make a mistake. Fill in the gaps “Sport” or “Sports”: 1) The first Olympic Games were in Greece in 776 B.C. There was only one ....- running and the prize was a red apple. 2) Every new Olympic Games have some new ...... 3) Do you think football is an exciting...? 4) There have been three ...competitions in our school this week: in football, basketball and volleyball.
2. Listening Comprehension ex. 1, p. 44. a) Pre-Listening Activity. Т: You are going to listen to and practise the first dialogue. Open your books on page 44, please. Look at the pictures in this page. Whom can you see? Do you remember some topics what the children have already discussed this year? b) While - Listening: be ready to say who suggests writing about sports. Say, what new words you come across in this dialogue. c) Checking Comprehension ex.2,p. 44.
d )Post- Listening Ex. 1, p. 44( work in 3 groups, T divides the STDs according to their level of language competence): (a) Reading in a group of two. (b) The best group acts the dialogue out. (c) Making up the dialogue WB ex. 2, p. 27.
a
b c (Dialogue making)
3. A Minute for rest a) A song (students try to sing a poem to the tune of a known children’s song )
I enjoy computer playing, Are you crazy about computer,
They are fond of diving. Making friends’ e-mailing?
Terry’s keen on surfing, All the kids enjoy them
Lilly good at diving It goes without saying.
b) CROSS AND NAUGHT (Vocabulary Reinforcement)
4. Grammar Presentation (Indefinite Pronouns): a) T’s explanation: let’s have a look at the rule on page 44 and classify these words into 2 groups :
can be said about a person can be said about a thing
b) Now explain to me when we use some/ any and their derivatives. Let’s find some examples of these words in the dialogue Ex. 1, p. 44.
5. Grammar Practice. I want to split you into 2 groups: raise your hands who prefers watching competitions in gymnastics and who enjoys athletics. Now the first group work together on ex.3( a),p. 46 when the second group prepare ex.3( b),p. 46.
Sorry, children, but your time is up, now let’s check and see how many marks each group will get (every correct answer gives 2 marks to a group).
6.A poem “ Indefinite Pronouns” ( filling gaps in the poem: someone (2), anyone, nothing, no, something):
When .....’s brought you something to read,
But you have no desire for it,
It means that ......has given you nothing to read
Or.... has fitted your mood to read.
It makes no matter, you mustn’t too worry:
When someone’s brought you ...... to read,
But you have ... desire for it.
To..... politely you say in reply,
“Hmmm.I am sorry, I am awfully sorry!
I must be off! I am too in a hurry!”
Key:
When someone’s brought you something to read,
But you have no desire for it,
It means that anyone has given you nothing to read
Or nothing has fitted your mood to read.
It makes no matter, you mustn’t too worry:
When someone’s brought you something to read,
But you have no desire for it.
To someone politely you say in reply,
“Hmmm.I am sorry, I am awfully sorry!
I must be off! I am too in a hurry!”
III.Summing –up: Dear children, we have done well today, haven’t we? We have got acquainted with new vocabulary, done successfully with your grammar (Indefinite Pronouns), we have competed and enjoyed our group work. It’s been an excellent lesson, but this time you’ll have to complete the following home assignment : WB ex. 1p. 26(in a written form), STBook ex.3,p. 44.
