Everyday Life.

 

Level – elementary

Objectives:

-         to revise vocabulary related to the topic;

-         to develop all types of pupil's language

-         skills; to develop pupils creative thinking

-         and attention; to encourage pupils to

-         work with each other.

 

Equipment: a tape recorder (a song "The Alphabet"), pictures ("Autumn", "My Working Day"), pictures of animals, cards of sounds; a placard "My Appearance".

 

Procedure.

 

I. Warming - up.

T: Good morning, children! I'm glad to see you. What's your name? What's your surname? How old are you? What are you? What school do you study at? What form are you in? Where do you live?

Ps: My name is... My surname is... I'm T. I'm a pupil. I study at collegium 16. I'm in the second form. I live in Ukraine. I live in Dneprodzerzhinsk.

 

P1: What is your name?

P2: My name is...

Pupils make up their own dialogues.

T: Let's repeat the sounds of English.

Teacher shows cards with sounds, pupils repeat sounds and words with them after the teacher.

 

[ж] A big black cat sat on a mat and ate a fat rat.

 

[w] Why do you cry, Willie,

Why do you cry, why Willie,

Why Willie, why Willie, why?

 

[f], [e], [i], [ou]. Fresh, pen, pin, snow, no

 

II. Speaking.

 

T: Now we'll count from 13 till 19 with the ending "teen" and from 20 till 90 with the ending "ty".

Pupils count.

T: Let's speak about your family, about the manes and the ages of your relatives. Do you have a mother? What's your mother's name? How old is your mother?

 

Ps: I have a mother. My mother's name is Nina. She is thirty-four. I have a father. My father's name is Vova. He is thirty-five. I don't have a sister. I have a brother. I like my family, because we are friends.

 

Pupils make up their own dialogues.

 

T: Children, look around. We are in your classroom. Let's describe it. Teacher asks pupils questions about the classroom, pupils answer them and repeat the questions. Is it a classroom? Is the classroom big? Is the classroom nice, clean? Are there many windows in the classroom? What colour are they? Are there boys in the classroom? Are the boys clever? Are there many girls in the classroom? Are they nice? Are there many flowers in the classroom? What colour are the flowers? Is there a blackboard in the classroom? What colour is the blackboard? Do you like your classroom? Why do you like your classroom?

T: Now we'll have a game. You will be the 1st team and you will be the second team. Your task is to say as many sentences as you can about the classroom, using There are many... There is...

Teacher ticks the sentences on the blackboard for pupils to see who's winning. Pupils play game.

T: Let's describe our classroom in monologue.

Pupils make up their own monologues about the classroom.

 

III. Writing.

 

T: Let's repeat the alphabet.

Pupils sing a song with alphabet.

Pupils repeat the separate letters after the teacher, then they do it themselves.

T: Now we'll write the English letters and words with them on the blackboard. Pupils write down separate letters and words with them on the blackboard.

 

b - big, p - pen, d - doll, i - it, t - ten,    m-man,       h - has,              n - not,              p - pet,              g - pig,              o – on

 

IV. Vocabulary revision.


T: Let's speak about autumn.

Teacher asks pupils the questions about autumn, they answer them and repeat. What's season is it now? Is the weather fine? Is the weather cold, warm, rainy, cloudy? What colour is the sky? What colour are the trees? Do birds fly away in autumn? Is the sky grey when the weather is rainy? Are there many puddles on the ground? Are there many flowers in autumn? What about you do you like flowers? Are there many mushrooms in autumn? What about you do like mushrooms? Do you like autumn? Why do you like autumn?

 

Teacher stresses the structures "What about you...", "As for me..."

 

Pupils make up their own mini-dialogues using new structures.

 

P1. What about you do you like autumn?

P2. As for me I don't like autumn.

P1. What about you do you like flowers>

P2. As for me I like flowers.

 

T: Let's repeat the days of the week.

Pupils read the cards with the days Of the week on their desks.

 

T: What are the working days?

What are the days off?

Ps. The working days are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.

T: Now we'll speak about your working day.

Pupils answer the teacher's questions.

Do you get up at 7 o'clock in the morning? Do you wash your face, hands? Do you clean your teeth? Do you do your morning exercises? Do you have breakfast? Do you have a sandwich, a cup of tea for breakfast? Do you go to school?

 

T: Let's do the morning exercises. Hands up! Hands down! Hands on hips! Hands to the sides]. Bend left, bend right, bend forward, bend back! Turn right, turn left! Jump! Run! Go! Look at the ceiling! Look at the floor!

 

V. Reading.

 

Pupils read and translate exercise 9 p.36.

 

T: Children, take your mirror, look at yourselves and look at the placard "My Appearance". Using the placard and the mirrors pupils describe themselves.

I'm a boy/girl.

My face is oval/round.

My eyes are green/brown/blue.

My nose is straight/turned up.

My checks are rosy.

My teeth are white. My lips are rosy.

My hair is dark/fair.

I'm beautiful/handsome.

 

T: Let's repeat the animals and get to know if you like them or not. Teacher shows the pictures of animals and pupils ask each other about tern and answer. Do you like cat? I like cat/I don't like cat. Do you like dog? I like dog.

 

VI. Homework.

 

T: Your homework for the next lesson will be to repeat the sentences about your working day, to write exercise 1 p.36, to learn exercise 9 p.36.
