Hyde Park

Hyde Park was opened in 1637. In the park there are green lawns,  flowerbeds, beautiful soft grass, ancient trees and fountains.

The main attraction in the park is the Lake Serpentine. You can swim and go boating.

Hyde Park is famous for its Speaker’s Corner. Here on Sunday morning you can see many people. They stand on a box or on the platform and make speeches about different things they think to be very important. People in the park listen to them, ask questions and then move to another speaker.

Londoners think that it is a very democratic park.

St. James’s Park

St. James’ Park is one of the royal parks. It is the oldest London park and it is very beautiful. There are amazing trees and flowerbeds in the park. From here you can see Buckingham Palace, the London home of the Queen.

St. James’s Park is famous for a lake where you can see pelicans, ducks and other birds.

Regent’s Park

Regent’s Park was opened to the public in 1838. In this park you may visit Queen Mary’s Gardens, the Rose Gardens and the lake and see rare and beautiful flowers.

Moreover, the Regent’s Park has open parkland and formal gardens, a large boating lake and open air theatre. Herons nest on the lake and you can see many other birds.

One of the main sights in this park is the Open Air Theatre, where plays take place in summer.

Regent’s Park is famous for the London Zoo. It was founded in 1829. Today there are more than 8000 animals in the zoo, and it is one of the biggest zoos in the world.

Kensington Gardens

Kensington Gardens is near Hyde Park. The members of the royal family have apartments at Kensington Palace in the Gardens and people can visit them.

In Kensington Gardens stand the Albert Memorial which Queen Victoria built in memory of (в пам’ять) her husband.

The park is famous for the bronze statue of Peter Pan, a famous fairy-tale character.

Green Park

Nowadays, the Green Park is a peaceful and safe refuge where visitors can go for a stroll before going to see the ceremony of Changing the Guard, held in the nearby Buckingham Palace. Unlike its neighbours, Green Park doesn’t have any lakes nor does it stand out for its impressive memorials or statues, but rather its charm is made up of hundreds of mature trees and grassland.

Simple and peaceful, Green Park is a pleasant green space where residents and tourists choose to go to get away from the crowd of the city.
