Hello. How is it going? Are you OK? I hope you are well. Summer holidays are over but winter ones are not far away.

•          What do you like doing during your holidays?
•          Where did you have the most unforgettable holiday of your life? What did you do?
•          Which places in the world would you like to visit and why? Have you ever been to a desert? Can you ski there?

But with the development of technologies it is possible to ski even in the desert. I think you have heard or maybe even some of you have been to Dubai, haven`t you?

•          What is Dubai?
•          Where is it situated?
•          Is it a large city? What`s its population?
•          Is its climate suitable for skiing?

Believe it or not but there is such a place in the desert. Let`s watch a short video about one of such places in Dubai.

So, now you have a general idea of the place and you can understand that the topic of our today`s lesson is SKI DUBAI

So, let`s start.

1. SB p.24 ex.2 reading for gist. You know this is skimming. Look through the text for 1 min. You should find out what the purpose of the text is.

2. So, we also require skills and strategies which are helpful for our exams. And reading for specific information is just one of them. But before reading let`s do ex.4 p.24 to be sure that you understand the meaning of all these words.

3. Do you remember tips for reading for specific information? If not, p.7  will be helpful. Ex. 3 p.24 

You have 4 min. to do it and I think it`ll be a pleasure if it is accompanied by famous Vivaldi`s  winter

And now we are going to speak about our Ukrainian ski resorts. Presentation Is skiing popular in our country? Can you name our ski resorts? Have you ever been to any of them?

Now we have a task to read about some of them and try to find information we need for our table. Après ski originated in the 1950s and directly translates to 'after ski' – a term to describe any post-ski social activity. In the mountains, skiers and snowboarders head to local bars after a great day of skiing and enjoy an evening of drinks, live music and mountain views.

Check up the information of two other groups. Is it correct?

So, look at the table and choose the resort which you would like to visit. Explain your choice.

Do you have the Internet  access? Can you search for ski pass prices per day at Bukovel? Compare them to prices of Ski Dubai. Don`t forget to exchange your currency. Is it much cheaper or not? Which resort would you like to visit due to the price?

While speaking about ski resorts we must take into consideration their environmental impact.

Can you name pros and cons of these resorts?

•          usage of fossil fuel as their energy source
•          gas emission
•          greenhouse effect
•          climate change

On the other hand nowadays they use more electricity which come from renewable sources such as wind and sun

As for the health it is said that skiers burn between 260 to 600  calories per hour on the slopes.
