Objectives: to introduce the vocabulary of the topic “Pets”, to introduce the structure ‘What is this?’, to practice the structure It`s a …’ to develop students` listening and speaking skills
Vocabulary: pet, fish, parrot, rabbit, mouse
Structure: What is this?
Materials: PB, PB Audio, ‘Pets’ flashcards, a box with toy animals, ‘Hello’ and ‘Goodbye’ songs video
Outcomes: by the end of the lesson pupils will be able to point and name pets , to draw attention to objects and ask “What is it?” and answer ‘It`s a …’
WARM-UP

Sing “Hello” song along with your students.

Game “How are you ?” (with a ball)
PRESENTATION

Ask pupils what they see in the pictures. They tell you Ukrainian.

Show the flashcards with pets to introduce the new vocabulary . Say “This is Jane. She has got a pet”, showing the first flashcard. Say “This is Tom. He has got a pet” showing the second flashcard. Do the same with the rest of the flashcards.

Ex. 1, p. 46. Get your students to open their books at p. 46. Explain that they are going to listen to the Audio and point to the pet.
PRACTICE

Ex. 2, p. 46. Ask a few pupils to point to the pictures in the book and say the names of the pets.

Play a game with your students. PuІl out your toy animals one-by-one from the “Magic box “ naming the pets. Then choose one of the pets without showing it to the class. Hide it behind your back. Encourage pupils to guess what it is asking questions ‘Is it a …?’

Ex. 3, p. 47. Play the audio again and ask pupils to repeat and point .Do it twice.

Ex. 4, p. 47. Explain pupils that they are going to make Pet Books.

Ex. 5, p. 47. Choose a pupil to come up to the front of the class with his/her Pet Book. Point to a pet in pupil`s Pet Book asking “Is it a …?’ Encourage the pupil to answer you “Yes, it is” or “No, it isn’t”

Take ‘Pets’ flashcards and hold them up one-by-one asking ‘What is this?’ Elicit pupils` answers.
