Ukraine has a long history, which reflects numerous periods of its prosperity and decay. But the desire of Ukrainian people to be independent was kept through the passing centuries. . Scientists say that Zaporizhian Sich was a good example of a democratic state. Zaporizhian Cossacks were really free and independent people. The main idea of Zaporizhian Sich was to fight for independence of their native land. Legends and songs brought us the names of national heroes: Bohdan Khmelnyts’kui, Petro Doroshenko, Ivan Mazepa, Petro Sahaidachnyi. Their names will live in hearts and minds of true Ukrainians forever.

The first attempt to achieve independence was made by Bohdan Khmelnitsky in 1648—1654. For the second time the Ukrainian state existed in 1918—1921 and its first president was the famous Ukrainian scientist Mikhail Grushevsky. The third attempt to become independent was made in 1991, after «Perestroika», which began in 1985.

On the 24th of August 1991 the Supreme Court adopted the «Act of the Independence of Ukraine». It was a document of a great historical importance The 24th of August is celebrated as the national Ukrainian Independence Day. Now our people are defending our independence.

Ukraine is a wonderful country with rich culture and interesting traditions. Ukrainians pay great attention to observing holidays. They try to keep all traditions and customs. Ukrainian people are kind, hospitable and friendly. They respect old people, love children, nature and animals. Home is a real wonder for them. Ukrainians are musical, artistic and wonderful craftsmen. They are hard-working.

Ukrainians respect bread. They meet their guests with bread and salt on the embroidered towel.  Bread is one of the holiest foods.

Group 2.

Ukrainian people celebrate Christmas, Easter, New Year, Ivana Kupala, St. Nicholas Day. They like to go to the church.

Our traditional symbols are straw didukh, decorated pysanka, holy water, and traditional dishes like kutia, paskha, varenyky, borsch and pampushky. Our people are famous for their folk dances, carols, fortune telling and blessing with water.

Numerous folk songs (schedrivky, kolyadky, vesnyanky) accompanied by the charming music of national instruments (bandura, sopilka, tsymbala, buben) and  folk dances (hopak, kozachok) are an integral part of family and folk holidays.

While fighting this war, we learn to value independence and to recognize true friends. We need independence to have a country worthy of the dreams of our ancestors. We need a state that would give its citizens a life of dignity, fairness and equal opportunities .

We must remember the heroes of Nebesna Sotnya and all soldiers who gave their lives for our native land. We ask Gog to help us in our struggle for peace and independence.

Let us pray for our native land all together! Let us pray for Ukraine!

Love Ukraine with all your heart. Let there always be peace and friendship on our land, in our Ukraine! Let us always be good friends and good neighbours in a village, in a town, in Ukraine, in Europe and in the whole world!
