Lesson Procedure

Warming Up:

  1. A game “Add a word”

 

One of the students chooses a wild animal to describe. The other students have to add a word to continue describing. The one who can’t add chooses another animal but don’t take part in the game no more.

 

New Learning and Practice:

  1. Individual work

 

Each child chooses an animal and researches the following questions:

 • Where does this animal live?

 • What is the climate like where this animal lives?

 • What food does this animal eat?

 

  1. Making pictures/posters

 

Ask each child to draw an A4 picture of their animal, add stickers etc. and write the answers to the questions somewhere on the paper.

  1. Speaking:

Ask the children to stick pictures on the board and say a few sentences answering the questions “Why did they choose that animal?”, “Is it at risk of climate change?” etc.

  • discussion of the ideas

 

  • Ask children if they agree/disagree and why.
  • Ask the children to think about how their chosen animal would survive if the climate continues to change.

 

 

  1. Writing - speech bubbles

 

  • Add a speech bubble to each animal saying what would happen to their habitat and how they would survive if the climate changed.

  1. Optional activity: Speaking Challenge

 

  • Ask each child to think of two other species (plants or animals) that would be affected if their chosen animal became extinct.

 

Wrapping Up:

 

  1. A game “Waste No Water”.

 

Instruction: Fill a clean open-topped non-breakable container with water for each team; be sure the containers are the exact same size and filled to the brim with water (do not fill to the top for preschoolers). Set a start and finish point. At a signal, the first runner heads for the finish line, walks over the line, turns around and heads back to his or her team, and passes the container to the next person in line. At the end of the race, the team with the most water still in the container is the winner.  

 

Optional activity: Discuss ways we cannot waste water in our lives!

 

  1. Set home assignment
