Procedure
To motivate students, tell that they’ll find interesting places around the city where they live and make a tourist guide to help the foreign friends to arrange their holidays in our hometown.
Suggest students to do the quiz “Do you know our town? Put students into pairs and ask them to answer the questions of the quiz. Set a time limit, when students have finished, invite them to discuss their answers in class. (The quiz questions students read from the white board.)
Engage students to review topical vocabulary in small groups. They are proposed to look at the screen with “word map” and make the list of the “city” words. When they are ready, invite groups to share the results of their work.
Keep students in pairs. Tell them to read dialogues with phrases for tourist advice (It`s important to… It`s worth visiting… It`s good idea to see… I`d advise you to go… I`d recommend going to…). Before students read focus them on phrases in the dialogues. Ask questions:
-Which structures are new for you?
- How do you say them in your language?
- Which of these expressions in bold are used with Infinitive or –ing form
When the questions are discussed, invite students to act out the dialogues in pairs and then in class. (Reading cards)
