Topic: Films. Predictions

Group:  10 students

 Level: A2-B1

Time: 45 min

Learning outcomes:

  • to  practice lexical materials on the topic;
  • to be able to  make future predictions using to be going to, will, may, might+ infinitive;
  • to be able to express one’s own opinions on the topic.

Aids: Pearson Education “Challenges 3” SB, WB, CD tape-recorder, photos of films, board .

PROCEDURE

I Lead-in

  • Students bring photos of films prepared at home and show them to the class.
  • Other students make their predictions about what will happen in the next episode.
  • The owner of the photo tells his or her variant.

II Grammar practice

  •        Students work individually
  •        Check answers by asking individuals to read aloud the sentences.

  Complete the sentences with the pairs of verbs.

  1. I'm not sure about Saturday. I  might go  to the cinema.
  2. The first film was terrible so I don't think the sequel will be very good.

  • Read through the instruction with the class. Check that students understand what to do.
  • Ask two students to read aloud the example exchange.
  • Students work in pairs, agreeing on a TV series and writing four or five predictions of what will happen in the next episode.

Work in pairs. Think of a TV series you both watch and predict what will                                                            happen in the next episode.

Example

A: I think Sheila will fall in love with Derek.

 B: That's impossible. She's in love with Tom.

2.Guessing game

 In turn, the pairs tell the class their predictions but don't say the title of the
series. The class guess the title.

 The class can vote for the most exciting/likely/amusing/romantic predictions.

 Tell the class your predictions. Don't say the title of the series. The class guess the title.

Hometask

Students prepare some movie riddles for the next lesson.
