Lesson equipment: textbook “English 3” A. Nesvit, a video song “ Head and shoulders”, flash cards “Parts of the body”, workbook .

Learning outcomes: by the end of the lesson students will be able to define parts of the body using the construction “THIS IS MY…/THESE ARE MY…”

Lesson Procedure

  1. Warm-up:

1. Greeting: Good morning, everyone! Nice to see you. Let’s start our lesson with a “ Hello” song. Are you ready?

Sts: Yes!

Students sing in chorus a “Hello” song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xC3xSij7n4c

2. Speaking Work-out

 T: Answer my question, please: “ How are you today?”

Students answer one by one.

St.1: I’m very well.

St.2: I’m tired

St.3: I’m great.

St.4: I’m super.

 

2.   New Learning and Practice:

1. Teach the body vocab.

T: Open your books at page 56, ex.1. Listen, point and repeat each word.

Students read the names of parts of the body, and point in their textbooks.

T: Good job! Thank you! Now your task is to read the words individually.

St.5: hair, an eye, a nose, a mouth.

St.6: a lip, a head, an ear, a cheek.

T: It’s very nice!  Look at the “body” flash cards, please. Name the part of the body and touch yours one. When I show you the “head” card you will name it and touch you heads.

    

    

    

 A teacher slowly reveals flashcards, students read the words and touch their parts of the body.

2.  Sing the “Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes” song

T: Thank you. You’re great! Oh, children, look here. Who came to us? Do you know them?

Sts: Yes!

St7: It’s a fox.

St8: it’s a cat.

St9: It’s an elephant  and a mouse.

St10:  It’s a rabbit.

T: Yes, you are right! They want to work-out with you! Please, stand up  and repeat after them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WX8HmogNyCY

Before singing a teacher repeats the words from the song, touching different parts of the body. Students sing the song several times.

3. Practice the vocab. (Ex.1b, p.56)

Point and say:

T: We are going to speak about different parts of the body, using the construction THIS IS MY…/THESE ARE MY…” Let’s read the example from ex.1b, p.56.

One of the students reads the example and translates into Ukrainian.

T: Make your own sentences as in the example.

Each student speaks about parts of the body and point.

 

4. Read classroom reader (Ex.3, p.57)

T: Look through the text, find parts of the body and read them.

St11: Head.

St12: Ears.

St13: Nose.

T: Read the text about Tom’s teddy bear.

Students read the text in chorus and individually. The teacher helps with the pronunciation.

T: Well done! Thank you. Now let’s read the sentences and say true or false. (Ex. 4,p.57)

Students read the sentences from the task. If the sentence is false they find the right answer in the text.

5. Do Ex.1, p. 27 workbook.

T: Look at the picture, read and complete the sentences with the words.

3. Wrap up

 1. Play “Show me, please”

To finish this lesson, play a game “Show me, please”. Explain the meaning of this phrase. Ask students to show their parts of the body that you name.

2. Homework: do exercise 5, p. 57 (describe your favourite toy)
