Ukraine

We live in Ukraine. Ukraine is a large European country. The population of Ukraine is about 45 million people. The capital of our country is Kyiv, a beautiful city on the bank of the Dniper River. Ukraine borders on Russia, Belarus, Moldova, Poland. Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. There are two seas in the south of Ukraine. They are the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. There are the Carpathian Mountains and the Crimean Mountains in Ukraine. The Crimean Mountains are not very high but beautiful. In the west of our country there are the Carpathian Mountains. Their peaks are covered with snow. The highest peak of the Carpathian Mountains is Hoverla with 2061 m high. The largest rivers are the Dniper, the Dnister, the Bug, the Donets and others.There are many beautiful old towns on their banks. Practically all of them are interesting places, famous for their history. The plant and animal worlds of our country are also very rich. There are a lot of different animals, birds and plants in the forests, fields and mountains. Ukraine is also rich in iron ore, coal, gas and other mineral resources. Because of mild climate Ukraine is traditionally an agricultural country. Wheat, maize and other corns, vegetables and all kinds of fruit are grown there.The Ukrainian symbols are the national flag and the Golden Trident. The national flag has two wide stripes: clue and yellow. The yellow colour symbolizes the colour of the sun and the wheat, and the blue colour means a clear sky.
