Christmas was one of the most important holidays in the Sich. The Cossacks went to the Church and sang Christmas carols, signifying the Solstice from winter to summer, and held a joint meal.6

Our ancestors had a good tradition: “On Easter everyone tried several times to pull the rope and ring the Church bells“. Аcording to some folk beliefs it brought happiness and prosperity to the family . Therefore, everyone excitedly tried to climb the belfry and rang out over the Ukrainian cities, villages the whole day! However, the young guys that sat closer to the Church, ran to the first ring. The main Cossack feast is the Pokrova14 October the Cossacks celebrated the feast of the Pokrova. It was a big Cossack day. This day is remembered by the Ukrainian people as the most important holiday of all people who considered themselves Cossacks. Patriotism of the Cossacks and their love for their native land was a unique phenomenon in the history of mankind. It was a day of great unity. And today we must remember about freedom and independence of the Ukrainian Cossacks , the Ukrainian nation!10
