SPORTS IN MY LIFE

Sport is probably as old as humanity itself.

Sport makes a person healthy and strong, that's why people all over the world are very fond of sports and games. The most popular kinds of sports in our country are athletics, gymnastics, football, basketball, swimming, cycling, motorcycling, wrestling and boxing. There are lots of stadiums, sports clubs and sports grounds in every city and town. If you want to be fit you must regularly go in for sports.

Sport is an essential part of my daily life. Every morning all year round I do my morning exercises. In summer I go swimming and cycling. Most winter days I spend skiing, skating and tobogganing.

I became interested in swimming when I was 5. My mum taught me to swim and soon I was able to swim fast and far. At 6 I started to attend our local swimming pool. Now I train twice a week, on my weekdays. But I prefer swimming in the sea. Besides| snorkelling is great if you want to see fish and other sea creatures underwater. I've had my snorkel, flippers and mask since my tenth birthday. Whenever we go on holiday I take them with me and spend hours swimming around underwater.

Two years ago our family spent two weeks on the Dnieper River, one of the main rivers of Ukraine. While we were there, we went white-water rafting. The hardest part was when we went over the rapids, of course. It was really exciting! I always wear my life-jacket, so I don't think water sports are dangerous.

I am fond of watching swimming and other competitions on TV.

In our country every year a great number of different competitions are held at different levels: school and national competitions, Students' Olimpiads, international championships - Olympic Games, Good Will Games, and so on. In 2012 Ukraine was the host to the UEFA European Football Championship, together with Poland. It was a very important event for our country.

Nowadays Ukraine is proud of its sportsmen. Andriy Shevchenkois a famous Ukrainian footballer, who is considered a national hero in Ukraine. Yana Klochkova is called “The Golden Fish”. Ruslan Ponomaryov became the youngest grandmaster at 14 and a champion at 18 playing chess. Brothers Clychko are well-known far beyond Ukraine. A sportswoman Anna Bessonova usually brings medals and Ivan Heshko is a very promising fencer.

Such national kinds as Cossack fight, combat hopak and “spas” are developing in Ukraine now. They are the example of Ukrainian traditions and interest mainly strong and cheerful young generation.

I know that sport makes people more organized and disciplined, so I'm sure sport is necessary in our life. To conclude I must say that “Good health is better than the best medicine”.
