The introductory part

Teacher:

  • Hello, boys and girls? I’m glad to see you?
  • We are glad to see you too.
  • I hope that we are in a good mood because today we’ll travel. Do you like travelling? (Yes). I like travelling too.
  •  How can we travel?

  • Today we’ll travel by this beautiful train to Great Britain. What do you know about this country?

  • The full name of Great Britain is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

  • Official language of the UK is English.

  • The name of British queen is Elizabeth II.

Teacher:

  • Well done. During our travelling we’ll find out many interesting facts about this country, its symbols and sights. I have already prepared for this excursion. I’ve taken a map.

The main part

I. Teacher:

T: The first station is “The symbols of England and Scotland” (закріпити на дошці назву першої зупинки). Welcome the first guide Inna. Inna, what information did you prepare for us?

Guide 1: Hello everybody. I prepared interesting information about the emblems of Scotland and England.

T: Students, you task is to listen to Inna and write are these sentences true or false. (кожна група учнів має листок паперу, на якому написано 4 речення). You have a sheet of paper. Here there are 4 sentences. You need to listen to the guide and in the end of the each sentence write “True” or “False”.

T: Is it clear? What do you need to do?

Task:

1. Great Britain consists of 4 parts.

2. The national symbol of Scotland is red rose.

3. The national symbol of England is thistle.

4. The Tudors is the British dynasty.

Guide 1.

Great Britain consists of 4 parts: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and each of them has own national emblem.  (показ частин Великобританії на карті). The national symbol of England is red rose which was at the same time the official emblem of ancient British dynasty of Tudor. I read a lot about this dynasty and even saw historical serial "The Tudors. As for me it is very interesting.

The national symbol of Scotland is thistle. The thistle is the national symbol of Scotland for more than 500 years.

T: Discuss your task and make up one question for Inna. You have 2 minutes.

P1:

  • Why is the thistle the symbol of Scotland?

Guide 1:

  • According to the ancient legend the thistle saved Scots from an enemy that’s why they chose it as the emblem of their country.

Guide:

  •  A kilt, a bagpipes and an oak.

T: To continue our travelling we need to form three new groups. Let’s mingle for this.

 Mingle, mingle. Form groups from 4 persons (2 persons, 3 persons, 6 persons).

 

 

II. Teacher:

  • The second station is “Symbols of Northern Ireland and Wales” (закріплення на дошці назви зупинки). Welcome our guide - Yana. What did you prepare?

Guide 2:

  • I prepared a short but interesting report about national emblems of the other parts of Great Britain, Wales and Northern Ireland
  • T: Your task is to listen to Yana and in the end with the help of these words make up questions for her.

Massage 2.

National emblem of Northern Ireland is shamrock. This symbol is associated with historical character of St. Patrick who is the national hero of Northern Ireland nowadays. St. Patrick's Day is a favourite holiday of the Irish. This day they dress on green clothes and pin the shamrock to their shirts and dresses. The Irish believe that shamrock brings good luck.

The national symbol of Wales is leek. According to the legend in ancient times it helped the Welsh in battles against the Saxons. Floral symbol of Wales is daffodil. In spring you can see a lot of blooming daffodils there. It is very beautiful.

T: Discuss you task. You have 2 minutes.

Заходить хлопчик у костюмі леприкона з горщиком, наповненим монетами.

Leprechaun:

  • I’m a leprechaun and I bring good luck. Take these happy coins. (Леприкон пригощає учнів і гостей шоколадними монетами із горщика). They’ll bring you luck.

Учні продовжують співати, леприкон знакає.

T: Where is a leprechaun.

P: He’s disappeared because he is fairy.

  • The fourth stop is “British castles”. Welcome our guide Vicky.
  • Vicky, what are you going to tell us?

Guide 3:

  • My message will be about British castles.

T: Boys and girls, you task is to listen to Vicky and match the name of the castle with picture.

Guide 3:

There are more than 380 castles in Great Britain. The most popular castles of England are Buckingham palace and Windsor. Buckingham palace is the residence of Queen Elizabeth II. It consists of 755 rooms. Each of them is unique and gorgeous.

Windsor castle is situated in England not far from London. Elizabeth II likes to spend her summer holidays there. Windsor is the very ancient castle; it was built in the time of William the Conqueror.

Stirling castle is the jewel of Scotland. Earlier it was the residence of kings because the town of Stirling was the capital of ancient Scotland. Now this castle is the symbol of the national spirit of the country The Scots say: "Who owns Stirling, who owns Scotland".

The heart of Wales is Cardiff castle. It is situated in the capital of Wales Cardiff. It was built by the Rome 2000 years ago. Now Cardiff castle is a museum where many concerts, festivals and even knight tournaments are held.

            Hillsborough castle is a residence of British queen in Northern Ireland.
