Procedure of the lesson

  1.        Introduction and Aims

T: We all like reading books, newspapers and magazines, watching TV, listening to music and resting, but most of all we all like eating. Do you like to eat? Of course you do. So, we'll talk about “Food. Meals. Preparing Meals” today.

By the end of the lesson you should be able to:

  •           recollect the words and word-combinations on the topic studied at the previous lessons and use them actively in your speech;
  •          listen to the conversation and get ready to reproduce what you've heard;
  •          act out your own dialogues on the topic;
  •          practice reading a recipe to learn how to make instructions in cooking one dish or another.

 

  1.    Warming - up

T: During this lesson you'll work in teams. You are divided into two teams and you are to take part in a competition. For every correct answer you'll get some points. The team which answers the best today will win the competition.

Now, dear pupils, meet our guests! They will serve on a jury today. They will be our judges. So, let's start.

 

The First Round. Presentation

T: Name your team and comment why you named it so. Present the team emblem. ( Points 1-3. Score ...)

The Second Round. Poems Revision

The Third Round. Guessing the Riddle “What am I?”

T: Read attentively aloud and guess the riddle. (HO1)

  1. I can be red or green or yellow. I grow in the tree in the garden. I'm tasty in autumn and in winter. What am I? (An apple)
  2. I'm very small. I'm red. I grow in the garden. I'm ripe in summer. My first letter is “C”. Children like jam with me. What am I? (A cherry)
  3. I'm very tasty, when I'm green. I grow in the kitchen garden. I'm tasty, when I'm salty too. People like to eat me with tomatoes in salads. What am I? (A cucumber)
  4. I'm tasty if you boil or fry me. And a little salt and butter, please. Don't forget to peel me. I'll be white then and clean. You like me with meat, fish, salad. You eat me practically every day. What am I? (A potato)

The Sixth Round. Vocabulary Revision.

T: The task is to “Pick an Apple from the Apple Tree” (HO5). But first look attentively and say what kinds of trees do we have?

Ps: “A Fruit tree”, “A Vegetable tree”, “A Food tree”.

T: You are to come up to the board, pick an “apple” from the tree, name it and write it on the board.( Score ...)

 

The Seventh Round. Listening Comprehension.

 

Dialogue “At a Cafe”

  1.    T: People often like going somewhere to have a snack. Let's listen to the audio material “At a cafe” to learn how to behave at the cafe and what people usually have for a snack.

 

AT A CAFE

A: Hello. Can I help you?

B: Yes, please. I'd like a fishburger and a beefburger.

A: A fishburger and a beefburger. Here you are. Would you like some chips?

B: Yes, please. Two bags.

A: Would you like an ice cream? We've got banana, chocolate and strawberry.

B: No, thank you. I'd like two apple pies.

A: What would you like to drink?

B: Some coffee, please. And some lemonade.

A: Would you like a tray?

B: I'd like two trays, please.

A: Beefburger, chips, apple pie, lemonade.

B: Here you are, Minnie. Here's your lunch.

The Ninth Round. Reading

  1.      Vocabulary Practice

T: Most people can prepare a simple salad without written directions. But many foods are prepared according to a recipe. You can find lots of recipes in different cookery books and magazines. A number of words given in exercise 1 on page 70 are often used while having breakfast.

At home you were to learn the vocabulary of ex.1 on p 70. Am I right? Now let's check your knowledge. Try to translate the words into English and match the words with the pictures. ( Score … )
